RABIU MUSA KWANKWASO DECLARES: “2027 IS NOT APC VS NDC—IT’S OPPRESSORS VS THE OPPRESSED”

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Kano State Governor and NDC vice-presidential candidate has framed the 2027 general election as a broader struggle between Nigerians he describes as the “oppressed” and those he considers the “oppressors,” rather than simply a contest between political parties.

Kwankwaso’s remarks come as the NDC intensifies its preparations for the 2027 election and seeks to position itself as a major opposition platform. Recent reports indicate that the party has been expanding its membership, including receiving defectors from the APC.

RABIU MUSA KWANKWASO SHIFTS THE 2027 BATTLE FROM PARTIES TO PEOPLE

According to the statement circulating from Kwankwaso, the central issue facing voters in 2027 should not be whether a candidate belongs to the NDC, APC or another political organisation, but whether that candidate represents the interests of ordinary Nigerians.

The message gives the election a populist dimension. Rather than presenting 2027 simply as a contest between competing party structures, Kwankwaso is portraying it as a referendum on governance, hardship, inequality and the relationship between political leaders and citizens. A similar formulation has been reported by Vanguard, which quoted him as describing the 2027 contest as a fight involving Nigerians and “oppressors.”

KWANKWASO’S MESSAGE COMES AS NDC BUILDS MOMENTUM

Kwankwaso has also described the NDC as the country’s biggest opposition platform and expressed confidence that its political strength will continue to grow. His comments come amid continued efforts to consolidate the opposition ahead of the 2027 election.

The former Kano governor’s political positioning is particularly significant because he is now operating within the NDC alongside Peter Obi. Recent reporting shows that the Obi-Kwankwaso combination faces both opportunities and resistance as it attempts to build support across Nigeria, particularly in the North.

For OGM News NG, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s “oppressors versus oppressed” framing could become one of the sharper political narratives of the 2027 campaign. Whether Nigerian voters ultimately see the election through that lens—or remain more concerned with party identity, candidates, ethnicity, religion, economic conditions and governance records—will be determined at the ballot box. As the political temperature rises, OGM News NG will continue to follow Kwankwaso, the NDC and the wider 2027 opposition battle.
