Wande Coal Fires Back at Davido Over ‘Come My Way’ Collaboration: “That Song Did Well Without You”

Wande Coal Fires Back at Davido Over ‘Come My Way’ Collaboration: “That Song Did Well Without You”

Afrobeats stars Wande Coal and Davido have found themselves at the centre of a fresh online exchange after a long-shelved collaboration resurfaced in the public conversation. The dispute centres on Wande Coal’s 2021 song “Come My Way,” for which Davido recorded a verse that was ultimately never officially released.

Davido recently explained that the collaboration fell apart because the two artists disagreed over the release arrangement. According to him, Wande Coal wanted to release the original song first and subsequently use Davido’s contribution for a remix, while Davido said he had recorded his verse specifically for the song rather than a remix. He also praised the unreleased verse as exceptionally good.

Davido Explains Why the Collaboration Never Happened

Speaking during an interview with Uncut, Davido recalled that Wande Coal approached him about the song before its release. He said he recorded his contribution but objected when he learned that the plan was to release the solo version first and later attach his verse to a remix.

The arrangement disagreement ultimately meant that the much-anticipated collaboration never received an official release. The situation became even more intriguing because snippets of the unreleased version had circulated among fans, creating curiosity about what the two Afrobeats heavyweights could have produced together.

Wande Coal Responds: “The Song Did Well Without You”

Wande Coal has now pushed back against Davido’s account in a blunt post on X. The singer questioned why Davido would have any say in the release strategy of a song he described as Wande’s own, stressing that the record already had a release plan and date. He then delivered the line that has sent social media into overdrive: the song, according to him, “did well without you on it.”

The response has transformed an old unreleased collaboration into a fresh Afrobeats talking point. “Come My Way” was officially released as a Wande Coal solo record in 2021 and later appeared on his 2023 album Legend or No Legend. The irony is almost too perfect: the collaboration that never came out has now become the collaboration everybody is talking about.

For now, neither artist’s account changes the basic fact that the Davido-assisted version remains officially unreleased, while both singers have now publicly offered their perspectives on why it happened. Whether this latest exchange ends with laughter, another response or—against all odds—the long-awaited remix remains to be seen. OGM News NG will continue watching the developing drama.
