MFM Suspends Vigils Nationwide As Rising Insecurity Forces Major Changes To Church Activities

MFM Suspends Vigils directive don send shockwaves through worship communities across Nigeria after the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries announced the suspension of all vigils and overnight programmes nationwide. According to an internal memo dated June 5, 2026, the church instructed all branches to conclude activities no later than 8:00 PM until further notice.

The directive, signed by the Director of Administration at the church’s international headquarters in Lagos, Temitope A. Olawale, stated that the decision was necessary to safeguard members amid growing security concerns across the country.

MFM Church Activities Face New Restrictions

Under the new arrangement, all services, meetings and church-related activities must now end by 8:00 PM. The church also directed that vigils and overnight prayer sessions be suspended indefinitely.

Where necessary, branches may convert vigils into evening programmes, but such gatherings must still end before or by the approved closing time.

The church stressed that the directive is compulsory and applies to all ministers, departments, groups and branches nationwide.

Security Concerns Drive Decision

Church leaders explained that the move was purely precautionary and not intended to disrupt worship activities. Instead, it was designed to reduce potential security risks facing members travelling late at night.

Nigeria has continued to battle security challenges including kidn@pping, banditry and attacks on rural communities, prompting organisations to introduce additional safety measures.

The directive was reportedly distributed to Principal Regional Overseers, Senior Regional Overseers, Mega Regional Overseers, Zonal Pastors and Branch Pastors for immediate implementation.

Internet Reactions No Carry Last

As expected, Nigerians quickly reacted online. Some praised the church for putting members’ safety first, while others expressed sadness that traditional overnight prayer programmes would temporarily disappear.

For social media, the cruise quickly arrived. Some users joked that even spiritual battles now have official closing hours, while others teased that prayer warriors may need to finish all prayer points before 8PM sharp.

Behind the jokes, many observers noted that the decision reflects the growing impact insecurity is having on everyday life, affecting schools, businesses, communities and now major religious activities.

For now, MFM members across the country will have to adjust to earlier closing times while hoping that improved security conditions will eventually allow the return of vigils and overnight programmes.
