APC Dismisses PDP Claims of Plot Against Saraki Over Offa Robbery Case, Urges Respect for Due Process

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has strongly rejected allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq orchestrated a plot to prosecute former Senate President Bukola Saraki over the 2018 Offa robbery incident.

Speaking at a press conference in Ilorin, the state capital, APC Secretary Abdulwaheed Balogun described the claims as unfounded and exaggerated, insisting they lack credible evidence. He stated that the party deemed it necessary to address what it called “misinformation” circulating in the public space, emphasizing that judicial matters should not be politicized or reduced to media narratives.

APC Rejects Allegations, Calls Claims Baseless

Balogun maintained that the accusations by the PDP and Saraki were “melodramatic” and failed to reflect the realities of the legal process. According to him, neither the governor nor the APC has any involvement in determining who is prosecuted, stressing that such decisions rest solely within the jurisdiction of law enforcement agencies and the judiciary.

He further argued that individuals who have no connection to the crime should have no reason to fear prosecution. In his view, public statements aimed at discrediting the process only serve to distract from the central issue—whether there is sufficient evidence to warrant legal action.

The APC spokesperson reiterated that courts operate on facts and verifiable evidence, not political pressure or public sentiment. He urged critics to refrain from drawing premature conclusions and instead allow the legal system to function independently.

Emphasizing the importance of due process, Balogun advised all parties involved to present their arguments before a competent court rather than engaging in what he described as “media campaigns.” He noted that the judiciary remains the only institution empowered to determine guilt or innocence in such matters.

He also pointed out that individuals familiar with the events surrounding the 2018 Offa robbery—which reportedly claimed more than 30 lives—would understand the seriousness of the case. As such, he called for restraint and respect for ongoing judicial proceedings.

Balogun criticized attempts to sway public opinion, warning that such actions could undermine confidence in democratic institutions. He insisted that no individual, regardless of political standing, is above the law and that accountability must be pursued through established legal channels.

Government Focus Remains on Governance and Development

Beyond the controversy, the APC affirmed that the Kwara State government remains focused on governance and development. Balogun highlighted ongoing efforts in infrastructure, healthcare delivery, and the regular payment of salaries and pensions as evidence of the administration’s commitment to its mandate.

He dismissed suggestions that the government was distracted by political disputes, stating that the administration continues to prioritize security, justice, and economic progress in the state. According to him, residents are best positioned to assess the performance and popularity of the current leadership.

Reaffirming the government’s stance, Balogun concluded that justice must take its course without interference, adding that political disagreements should not obstruct the pursuit of truth and accountability.
