The senior police officer made the statement while emphasizing the urgent need for discipline, accountability, and strict adherence to professional standards among officers.
Tunji Disu stressed that the power entrusted to police officers must always be exercised responsibly and strictly within the boundaries of the law. According to him, any officer who attempts to misuse their authority to intimidate citizens, engage in corruption, or violate the rights of Nigerians will face severe disciplinary consequences without exception.
Tunji Disu further warned that the era of shielding erring officers from punishment is over, noting that the leadership of the police is determined to promote integrity, professionalism, and public service as the core values guiding law enforcement operations across the country.
Renewed Efforts to Restore Public Trust
Tunji Disu acknowledged that rebuilding public confidence in law enforcement remains a crucial priority for the police leadership. He noted that trust between the police and the public is essential for effective crime prevention and maintaining peace and security within communities.

He added that when officers act with professionalism and integrity, it strengthens the credibility of the Nigeria Police Force and encourages citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
Tunji Disu also encouraged officers across the country to remember that their primary responsibility is to serve and protect the public. According to him, actions that damage the reputation of the police undermine national security efforts and weaken public trust in the justice system.

Tunji Disu emphasized that strengthening professionalism within the police force requires consistent enforcement of discipline and the establishment of strong internal accountability mechanisms. He noted that police reforms must translate into real actions that discourage misconduct and promote ethical behavior among officers.
