Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and stability in Nuku and Woro communities of Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State, following the deadly terrorist attacks recorded on Tuesday. The assurance comes amid heightened concerns over security in parts of the North-Central region, where sporadic violence has disrupted lives, livelihoods, and local economies.
The Vice President gave this reassurance on Saturday, February 7, when he led a high-powered Federal Government delegation to Kaiama to commiserate with affected residents and the Kwara State Government over the tragic incident. Several lives were lost in the attacks, while properties and sources of livelihood were reportedly destroyed, leaving communities in grief and fear.
Shettima’s visit was aimed not only at condolence but also at reinforcing the Federal Government’s resolve to ensure that such attacks are decisively confronted. He emphasized that the administration of President Tinubu considers the safety of citizens a top priority and will not allow criminal elements to destabilize any part of the country.
Federal Government Delegation Commiserates with Kaiama Communities
During the visit, Vice President Shettima expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and conveyed President Tinubu’s heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. He described the attack as a painful reminder of the challenges Nigeria continues to face in its quest for lasting peace and security, particularly in rural and border communities.
Addressing community leaders, traditional rulers, and residents, Shettima urged them to remain resilient and cooperative with security agencies. He stressed that intelligence sharing and community vigilance remain critical tools in preventing further attacks and ensuring that criminal networks are dismantled effectively.
The Vice President also commended Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman
AbdulRazaq, for his swift response to the incident and his continued collaboration with federal authorities. According to Shettima, the synergy between the Federal Government and state governments is central to achieving sustainable peace across the country.
Deployment of Army Battalion and Coordinated Security Measures
As part of immediate interventions, Vice President Shettima confirmed the deployment of a Nigerian Army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area. He explained that the presence of additional troops is intended to strengthen security, deter further attacks, and reassure residents of the government’s commitment to their safety.
Beyond troop deployment, Shettima disclosed that coordinated security operations involving the military, police, and other security agencies are already underway. These operations, he said, are designed to address not only the Kaiama attacks but also broader security threats across Kwara State and neighboring areas.
He further assured residents that the Federal Government is adopting a comprehensive approach that combines kinetic operations with intelligence-driven strategies. According to him, the aim is to identify the root causes of insecurity, dismantle terrorist cells, and prevent a recurrence of such tragic incidents in the future.
Tinubu Administration’s Broader Commitment to Peace and Stability
Vice President Shettima reiterated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains fully committed to restoring peace, stability, and normalcy in all parts of Nigeria affected by insecurity. He emphasized that no community would be abandoned, regardless of its location or size.
He also highlighted ongoing efforts to complement security operations with development initiatives, noting that poverty, unemployment, and social exclusion often fuel insecurity. By addressing these underlying issues, the government hopes to build more resilient communities capable of resisting criminal influences.
Shettima urged the people of Nuku, Woro, and Kaiama at large to remain united and hopeful, assuring them that the Federal Government will continue to stand with them until lasting peace is achieved. He reaffirmed that the sacrifices of the victims would not be in vain and that justice and security would prevail in Kwara State.
