Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised 10 insurgents during a late-night counterterrorism operation along the Gamboru–Dikwa–Marte axis in Borno State. The operation, conducted under the joint task force of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), led to the recovery of arms, ammunition, and other combat equipment used by the terrorists.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Sani Uba, the media information officer of the task force, confirmed that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to clear remaining terrorist hideouts in the North-East region. The statement noted that the troops, acting on credible intelligence, engaged the insurgents in a fierce gun battle that lasted several hours before successfully overpowering them.
According to the task force, the recovered items include assault rifles, ammunition, explosives, and communication devices believed to have been used for coordinating attacks on civilian communities and military positions.
Army Commends Troops’ Bravery, Reaffirms Commitment to End Insurgency
Sani Uba commended the troops for their professionalism and courage during the operation, describing their success as “another significant step” in the military’s drive to secure the region. He noted that the troops have maintained a strong offensive posture in recent months, ensuring that insurgents find no safe haven in Borno or neighbouring states.
“The troops remain resolute in their mission to rid the North-East of remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists. Their sacrifices continue to yield positive results,” the statement read. The spokesperson urged residents of the region to continue providing useful information that could assist the military in tracking and neutralising fleeing insurgents.
The Nigerian Army also reiterated its commitment to collaborating with other security agencies, local vigilantes, and community leaders to maintain sustained pressure on the insurgents.
Stability Efforts Strengthen Civil-Military Cooperation in North-East
Security analysts have described the recent success as a boost to ongoing stabilisation efforts in Borno, a state that has endured over a decade of insurgency. Military operations like this, they say, not only weaken the operational capabilities of terror groups but also build confidence among residents gradually returning to their communities.
The Nigerian military has, in recent years, intensified its campaign through improved intelligence sharing, targeted air strikes, and night raids aimed at disrupting terrorist movement and logistics. The Gamboru–Dikwa–Marte axis, once a notorious corridor for insurgent activities, has seen significant improvement in security as a result of these continuous efforts.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to consolidate gains made so far in restoring peace to the region.
