Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has stirred public debate with a bold declaration that the suffering of Nigerians is not caused only by politicians in Aso Rock but also by individuals within the labour movement itself. According to him, cabals exist both inside and outside government, and some of the harshest punishments inflicted on ordinary citizens come from those entrusted with defending them.
Comrade Joe Ajaero explained that while the Presidency and political office holders often receive the bulk of criticism for Nigeria’s economic collapse, many hidden figures in labour leadership quietly contribute to the hardship. These individuals, he argued, negotiate self-serving deals, enrich themselves through closed-door settlements, and then pretend to be champions of the people in public.
Comrade Joe Ajaero stressed that this hypocrisy must be exposed if Nigeria is to move forward. He lamented that ordinary workers, traders, and unemployed youths are left abandoned while union elites enjoy comfort and cut secret bargains with the same politicians they claim to oppose.
Comrade Joe Ajaero Condemns Secret Negotiations and Betrayal of Workers
Comrade Joe Ajaero accused some leaders of the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of turning the labour struggle into a political marketplace. He insisted that Nigerians should no longer be deceived by sudden strike calls or dramatic protests that end abruptly after midnight meetings between union executives and government officials.
Comrade Joe Ajaero described these actions as a betrayal of trust. According to him, workers feel abandoned whenever unions announce strikes with so much noise, only to suspend them suddenly with no concrete gains for the people. The perception, he added, is that union leaders are trading away the pain of the masses for personal political or financial rewards.
Comrade Joe Ajaero further condemned the irony of labour leaders who chant solidarity songs on the streets but live in luxury while workers remain trapped in poverty. He noted that the labour movement, once a symbol of resistance against oppression, now risks becoming a cabal of its own, feeding fat while the poor struggle to survive.
Comrade Joe Ajaero Demands Accountability and End to Labour Hypocrisy
Comrade Joe Ajaero declared that no nation can thrive when those meant to defend the people’s interests act like parasites feeding on them. He compared such leaders to rats that eat the flesh of the masses while blowing soothing breeze to numb the pain. This, he argued, is the cruelest form of exploitation because it disguises betrayal under the mask of solidarity.
Comrade Joe Ajaero emphasized that genuine reform cannot succeed if the duplicity within labour unions is ignored. He warned that if NLC and TUC continue to act as cabals, Nigeria’s democracy, economy, and workers’ dignity will remain trapped in a vicious cycle of deceit and exploitation.
Comrade Joe Ajaero concluded that Nigerians can no longer afford to see labour unions as unquestionable defenders of the people. He called for accountability, transparency, and genuine commitment from union leaders who claim to fight for the masses while secretly feeding on their pain. He insisted that the time has come to strip away the falsehoods and demand true service to the people, whether from politicians in Aso Rock or from union executives parading themselves as labour heroes.
