Kwankwaso Denies Merger Talks, Says NNPP Not in a Hurry to Compromise

The National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has denied claims that his political party has submitted a letter of intent to join another political party. The former Governor of Kano State dismissed the report as a mere rumour, stressing that neither he nor the NNPP leadership had made such a move.

Kwankwaso described the online publication suggesting that the NNPP had approached another party as misleading and unfounded. He urged party members and the public to disregard such speculations, noting that the NNPP remains committed to its current political path.

“We have been alerted to some online statements suggesting that we have submitted a letter of intent to join a political party in the country. We would like to clarify that we have not made any such submission to any party,” he said.

Clarification on NNPP’s Political Position

The NNPP leader further explained that while his party remains open to political engagements, no formal step has been taken to align with any party at present. Kwankwaso advised supporters to rely only on official communication channels for accurate updates.

Kwankwaso acknowledged that discussions about possible alliances or mergers often emerge in Nigeria’s political landscape, but emphasized that any such decision would be based on transparency and mutual respect. He reiterated that NNPP members holding political offices must be assured of fair treatment should any collaboration occur.

“Our Governor, Senators, Representatives, and other officeholders must not be sidelined in any arrangement. If we are to consider joining another party, it will only be on terms that protect their positions and the collective interest of the NNPP,” Kwankwaso stressed.

Kwankwaso set Conditions for Possible Political Alignment

While dismissing the reports of a submitted letter, Kwankwaso admitted that he had, in the past, expressed openness to working with other parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, he made it clear that such a move would only be possible under strict conditions.

According to him, his past experiences with the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) left him feeling that his contributions were unappreciated. He said that NNPP’s current stability and independence remain the priority, but alliances could be considered if anchored on honesty and respect.

“If you say I should go back to the APC, I’m willing to re-join. I didn’t say I won’t join even now, but on what terms? When I was with the APC and PDP, they didn’t respect my integrity. We worked hard, they won elections, and later abandoned us. We cannot allow that to happen again,” Kwankwaso noted.

He concluded by affirming that the NNPP is not in haste to make political compromises, but remains willing to collaborate with any party that demonstrates transparency and fairness.
