Veteran Nigerian rapper, William Orioha, popularly known as 2Shotz, has finally opened up about the lingering controversy surrounding him and Nollywood actress, Beverly Osu. The rapper, who was once a household name in the Nigerian music scene, revealed that the assault allegation leveled against him destroyed not only his career but also his personal life.
Speaking during his appearance on The Teju Babyface Show, 2Shotz lamented how the accusations tore apart his reputation. According to him, the public narrative painted him as an abuser, even though he insists he was misunderstood and wrongly judged. He described that period as one of the darkest in his life.
Beverly Osu’s Role in the Alleged Scuffle
Explaining the situation further, 2Shotz revealed that Beverly Osu used to frequent his home and they developed a close relationship. She featured in one of his music videos and, according to him, they later became romantically involved. He noted that the alleged assault occurred during one of their heated arguments, which unfortunately escalated into a scuffle.
The rapper claimed that his hand brushed her face during the argument, but this was misinterpreted and exaggerated as physical abuse. “If I truly beat someone, it would have been obvious,” he emphasized, insisting that the entire situation was blown out of proportion.
Fallout and Damage to Career
2Shotz recalled how the scandal spread rapidly, fueled by the media and word of mouth, which left him stigmatized. At the peak of the controversy, he lost endorsements, show bookings, and collaborations. Once regarded as a pioneer of Nigerian hip-hop, the rapper saw his brand collapse almost overnight.
He stressed that the damage to his image was irreparable as fans, colleagues, and even industry insiders distanced themselves from him. “Everybody tore me apart. I wasn’t getting shows, I wasn’t getting deals. Everything went down,” he recounted bitterly.
Impact on Marriage and Family Life
Perhaps the most painful consequence of the controversy, 2Shotz admitted, was the collapse of his marriage. According to him, his then wife used the allegations as evidence against him during their marital breakdown. The scandal became a weapon that turned his own household against him.
The fallout from the allegations also created a heartbreaking distance between him and his daughter. “It actually cost me my marriage. It actually cost me my daughter. I haven’t seen my daughter once,” he revealed, his voice heavy with emotion.
Emotional Struggles and Suicide Attempt
Beyond the financial and professional loss, 2Shotz disclosed the emotional toll that the saga had on him. He fell into deep depression and contemplated taking his own life. The rapper narrated how he once walked into a body of water with the intention of drowning himself, only to be rescued by people who noticed him.
“I almost killed myself. I waka enter water, na people pulled me out,” he confessed, shedding light on the mental health struggles celebrities often face when engulfed in scandal. This revelation has sparked renewed conversations about the importance of emotional support for entertainers under pressure.
Lessons Learned and Moving Forward
Reflecting on his ordeal, 2Shotz said he has learned the hard way about the dangers of public perception and the impact of personal choices on one’s career. He expressed disappointment that his side of the story was never truly heard until now, years after the incident.
The rapper urged the public to be cautious about rushing to judge celebrities based on trending accusations. While acknowledging his mistakes, he maintained that the narrative surrounding Beverly Osu’s allegation ruined his legacy. He now hopes to rebuild his life and career, while also inspiring others who may be facing similar struggles to never give up.
