Lady Apostle Helen Ukpabio has once again stirred the waters of Christian orthodoxy by publicly rejecting what she calls the “calendar of deception” — which includes Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Sister’s Day, International Women’s Day, and other popular celebrations. Preaching to her congregation at Liberty Foundation Gospel Ministries in Calabar, she thundered: “These holidays are not from God. They are rooted in ancient idolatry!”
Ukpabio warned believers to stop engaging in what she described as “emotional blackmail disguised as appreciation,” emphasizing that the Bible contains no such observances. “You’re shouting Happy Mother’s Day, but have you asked who started it and why? It’s not scriptural. It’s not spiritual. It is worldly,” she asserted.
Ukpabio Expands Attack: “Father’s Day, Sister’s Day, Women’s Day — All Pagan Constructs”
Expanding beyond Mother’s Day, Ukpabio lambasted other commemorative days such as Father’s Day, International Women’s Day, Brother’s Day, and even Children’s Day. She claimed these celebrations originated from ancient religious calendars used to venerate deities representing fertility, masculinity, femininity, and nature.
“These are not days of gratitude; they are cleverly disguised spiritual portals,” she warned. “The Church has unknowingly brought in Baal and Asherah altars. Whether it is ‘Happy Father’s Day’ or ‘Happy Sister’s Day,’ if it’s not in the Bible, then it’s from the world — and we must reject it.”
“International Women’s Day Is a Secular Trojan Horse” – Helen Ukpabio Asserts
Lady Apostle Helen Ukpabio zeroed in on International Women’s Day, describing it as a “globalist feminist ritual” that contradicts biblical womanhood. “God never asked us to exalt gender. He asked us to glorify Him,” she said. “The devil is using these celebrations to replace divine order with secular ideologies.”
She warned Christian women not to be deceived by empowerment slogans that subtly undermine scriptural submission and humility. “You’re waving banners on Women’s Day and calling it empowerment, but you are unknowingly aligning with movements that oppose God’s word.”
“No Biblical Precedent” – Helen Ukpabio Rebukes Church Compromise
Ukpabio challenged pastors to find any verse in the Bible that supports annual celebrations of family roles like “Mothers,” “Fathers,” or “Siblings.” “Where did Jesus say ‘Happy Father’s Day’ to Joseph or ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ to Mary? It’s not there,” she said. “Stop inventing new commandments. The Bible warns against adding or subtracting from the Word.”
She argued that these days are not only unbiblical but often serve as emotional pacifiers used by carnal churches to distract people from true righteousness. “You give roses on Mother’s Day, but ignore widows in your church. You post photos on Father’s Day, but can’t forgive your earthly father. That’s hypocrisy dressed in sentiment.”
Social Media Meltdown: Believers Split Over Helen Ukpabio’s Message
As expected, Ukpabio’s sermon sparked a massive storm across Nigerian social media. Her name trended alongside #BanMotherDay and #HelenUkpabioTruth. Supporters praised her courage, saying she is “fighting for the soul of the Church.” Others mocked her theology, calling it “spiritual paranoia.”
A Facebook user wrote, “She’s absolutely right! All these days are vanity and distractions from the devil.” Meanwhile, another retorted, “So we should not appreciate our parents and siblings anymore? That’s not holiness. That’s extremism.” The digital debate shows how deeply cultural celebrations have embedded themselves into the Christian psyche.
Ukpabio Launches National Campaign: “Clean the Church Calendar!”
Refusing to retreat, Helen Ukpabio announced a new campaign titled “Purge the Pulpit”, which seeks to re-educate churches about spiritual compromise. She revealed that her team will distribute doctrinal guides warning against the uncritical adoption of secular and foreign holidays.
“I am not against honoring people — I am against dishonoring God,” Ukpabio said. “Let the Church return to Bible feasts and leave behind the seductive calendars of the world. Say no to Happy Mother’s Day. Say no to Father’s Day. Say no to any day that did not originate from the Holy Spirit.”
