Senator Victor Umeh has delivered a bold political verdict ahead of the 2027 elections, declaring that nobody can defeat Kwankwaso in Kano State if the election is credible, free and fair. The statement arrives at a time when Kano politics is becoming increasingly heated, with Kwankwaso’s political structure facing new alliances, defections and a determined challenge from rival camps. In the political theatre of Kano, Umeh’s declaration has effectively added another drumbeat to an already very loud campaign season.
Kano’s Political Battlefield Is Getting Crowded
Umeh’s confidence rests heavily on Kwankwaso’s longstanding political influence and the strength of the Kwankwasiyya movement in Kano. Kano federal lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin has argued that President Bola Tinubu can defeat Kwankwaso in the state, pointing to the changing political machinery surrounding the former governor. In other words, while Umeh is already announcing the result, other politicians appear determined to keep the ballot boxes involved in the conversation.
The ‘Nobody Can Beat Him’ Debate Begins
Kwankwaso’s political camp has nevertheless continued to demonstrate considerable organisation. In May, Kwankwaso announced Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo as the NDC governorship candidate in Kano and Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna as the party’s Kano Central senatorial candidate, reinforcing the effort to build a formidable political structure ahead of the elections.
The latest declaration from Umeh therefore carries political weight, but it remains a prediction rather than an electoral result. Kano’s 2027 contest is still developing, alliances can change, candidates can change, and voters ultimately have the final say. For now, Senator Umeh has confidently placed his political bet on Kwankwaso — leaving rival camps with the small inconvenience of waiting for Kano voters to reveal whether the prediction survives contact with the ballot box.
