2027: Adebutu Declares Ogun Governorship Ambition Under PDP

Hon. (Dr.) Oladipupo Adebutu, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has officially declared his intention to contest again for the state’s governorship seat in the 2027 general elections.

Adebutu announced his decision through a formal letter dated April 30, 2026, addressed to the Ogun State Chairman of the PDP through the party chairman in Odogbolu Local Government Area. The letter, later made available to journalists by his media aide, Afolabi Orekoya, signals the beginning of renewed political activity ahead of the next election cycle in Ogun State.

His declaration places him among the early political figures positioning themselves for the 2027 governorship contest, while also reopening discussions about the future of the opposition party in the state.

Adebutu Seeks Fresh Mandate After 2023 Contest

In the letter, Adebutu expressed appreciation to party leaders and members for what he described as their unwavering support and loyalty during previous political engagements. He formally informed the leadership of the PDP of his desire to contest the governorship election under the party’s platform once again.

According to him, the decision was driven by his commitment to the ideals of the PDP and his determination to provide purposeful and people-oriented leadership for the people of Ogun State. He stated that his political experience and years of involvement within the party have prepared him for the task ahead.

Adebutu was the PDP flagbearer in the 2023 governorship election, making him one of the party’s most recognisable figures in Ogun politics. His fresh declaration suggests an intention to build on the political structures and support base established during the last election.

Adebutu Call for Unity Within Ogun PDP

A major theme of Adebutu’s declaration was the need for unity among members and leaders of the party. He stressed that internal cohesion would be vital if the PDP hopes to mount a serious challenge in the 2027 governorship race.

He noted that collective resolve, collaboration and reconciliation among stakeholders would determine the party’s chances of success at the polls. He also pledged to work with all factions within the PDP to achieve a common objective.

Political observers believe party unity may become a decisive factor, especially in a state where strong internal alliances and grassroots mobilisation often shape election outcomes. Adebutu’s message appears aimed at consolidating support early and reducing internal divisions.

Road to 2027 Begins in Ogun

With the 2027 elections still some distance away, Adebutu’s early declaration may influence the pace of political alignments within both the PDP and rival parties in Ogun State. It may also encourage other aspirants to begin consultations and public declarations in the months ahead.

His renewed ambition reflects continued confidence in his political relevance and belief that the electorate may be open to alternative leadership in the state. Whether this early move translates into broader support remains to be seen as political activities gather momentum.

For now, Adebutu has made his intentions clear, setting the stage for what could become a highly competitive race for the Ogun governorship in 2027.
