When questioned about Obi’s potential effectiveness in handling the nation’s economic challenges, Nyesome Wike declined to engage further in discussions about the elections. He added that Obi could have emerged victorious in the February 25th polls had his qualifications been more compelling.
Wike conveyed this viewpoint in an exclusive interview with Channels TV on Wednesday.
“I prefer not to delve into matter’s propagated on social media. I no longer deliberate on presidential candidates; my focus is on the economy and the President’s policies and contributions.
“If Obi’s capabilities were more substantial, Nigerians might have shown greater support for him.”
Nyesome Wike also emphasized that, despite his affiliation with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), there is no novelty in his service as a minister under an APC-led government.

He expressed, “I am an unwavering member of the PDP. How does that relate to governance? Let’s recall the case of Obasanjo and Atiku: the president and vice president in 1999. They included late Bola Ige, a member of AD, not only in the power ministry but also as the Attorney General of the nation.
“Therefore, what’s groundbreaking about my involvement in the APC government? I served under the PDP banner and supported Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yes. Did I keep that hidden? I feel a sense of belonging while collaborating with Tinubu. He has instilled in me the audacity to work for the nation’s betterment.

He is genuinely concerned about the country’s welfare. “I’m not here to serve a party; I am here to aid the President, who trusts in my abilities to contribute to the resurgence of hope. I owe no apologies to anyone. I was with the PDP and supported Tinubu’s presidential aspiration. In the South East and South South regions, the President secured victory solely in Rivers State. We stand by our decision without regrets.
“Tinubu holds a position of authority for me. He appointed me, outlines my agenda, and provides the framework that guides my actions in Abuja, which I execute meticulously.”
