Students For NAUTH School of Nursing Nnewi Protest as School Fees Jump from ₦90k to ₦580k – “Na School We Come, No Be Mortgage!

Students of the School of Nursing for Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, wake up this morning see wetin dem no expect at all. The school fees wey dey around ₦90,000 before suddenly jump reach heavy ₦580,000. The kind increase wey make person check him phone twice to be sure say na correct message.

As the news land, NAUTH students begin gather for the school compound with serious confusion and anger. Some dey ask if na mistake, others dey wonder whether the school management mistakenly add extra zero join the fees. For many students, the amount no be small matter at all.

Plenty of the students talk say the new fee no be something ordinary family fit afford easily. One student even joke say, “If na ₦580k we wan pay, make dem add small hospital bed join the package so we go start work immediately.”

NAUTH Students Carry Placards, Demand Explanation

The protest begin early in the morning as students gather for the school premises to express their frustration. Some carry placards wey write messages like “Education No Be Luxury,” “Reduce Our Fees,” and “We Be Students, No Be Oil Companies.”

The atmosphere mix serious concern with small humor as some students dey shout slogans while others dey discuss how the fee jump pass inflation speed. One protester talk say the increase sharp pass ambulance siren.

According to the NAUTH students, dem no get proper warning before the new fees appear. Many say such a big increment suppose come with clear explanation and enough time for families to plan.

Calls for Management to Review the Fee

The protesting students now dey call on the management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital to quickly review the new fee structure. Dem say education suppose remain accessible, especially for nursing students wey go eventually serve the public health sector.

Some students fear say if the fees remain like this, plenty of people go forced to drop out because dem no fit afford am. Others argue say the increase fit discourage young people wey wan enter the nursing profession.

For now, the students say dem go continue to seek dialogue with the school authorities until solution show face. As one student put am with small laughter, “We come learn how to save lives, but this school fees dey threaten our own life first.”
