Speaker Benjamin Kalu Ignites Political Earthquake in Abia: 20,000 Join Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ Army Amidst Fierce Criticism

Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has officially inducted over 20,000 new members into the Renewed Hope Partners (RHP) movement in his home constituency, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State. The ceremony, held under heightened media and political scrutiny, marks a significant grassroots expansion of the Renewed Hope Agenda spearheaded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

According to Benjamin Kalu, this surge in participation is a direct response to what he describes as “a transformational socio-political doctrine designed to restore Nigeria’s dignity through intentional policy reforms.” The event, which witnessed the convergence of political operatives, traditional rulers, and youth representatives, was not merely ceremonial but strategic—signaling an aggressive mobilization towards consolidating Tinubu’s vision at the local level.

Renewed Hope Agenda: Beyond the Politics, A Strategic National Doctrine

Speaking with passionate conviction, Kalu emphasized that the Renewed Hope Agenda transcends the realm of political sloganeering. “It is not just a catchphrase,” he stated. “It’s a deeply considered national framework for reengineering our economy, securing our people, and reclaiming Nigeria’s global relevance.”

The Deputy Speaker further argued that the policy thrust under President Tinubu has already begun to yield tangible outcomes. He highlighted a deliberate move from subsidy-dependent economics to sustainable, growth-oriented financing. “What we’re witnessing is the dismantling of fiscal illusions and the installation of financial clarity,” Benjamin Kalu declared, rebuffing critics who have labeled the reforms as harsh and elitist.

Fuel Subsidy Removal: A Strategic Sacrifice for National Rebirth

Benjamin Kalu didn’t shy away from the controversial fuel subsidy removal, which sparked protests and hardship among average Nigerians. Instead, he doubled down on its necessity. “The removal was painful, but it was the bitter pill Nigeria needed to avoid economic collapse. The results speak for themselves,” he asserted.

He revealed that the subsidy removal alone led to a staggering 50% drop in petrol importation and pushed government revenues to an unprecedented N9.1 trillion in H1 2024—figures that critics have either dismissed or ignored. “This was not austerity; it was surgical economic detoxification,” Kalu argued, positioning the policy as a courageous leap into fiscal independence.

Forex Market Reform: Turning Nigeria into an Investment Magnet

Benjamin Kalu described the unification of Nigeria’s multiple foreign exchange windows as one of the most courageous policy actions taken under the Renewed Hope Agenda. “Before now, the FX system was a breeding ground for corruption and arbitrage. We shut that down,” he said.

According to the Deputy Speaker, the move has helped stabilise investor confidence and boost economic integrity, as seen in Nigeria’s improved GDP growth of 3.84% in Q4 2024. “What we’re doing is building a transparent and competitive market environment. The world is watching—and they’re responding positively,” he said, referencing Fitch and S&P Global’s recent upgrade of Nigeria’s credit outlook to ‘Stable B.’

Taming Inflation and Rebuilding Purchasing Power

Benjamin Kalu lauded the administration’s efforts to fight inflation, declaring that “we’ve gone from runaway inflation to rational economic behavior.” He cited a dramatic drop in Nigeria’s inflation rate from 34.6% in 2024 to 23.71% by May 2025, a feat achieved through what he described as “surgical fiscal interventions and aggressive agricultural investments.”

He also pointed to a 25% reduction in staple food prices within Q1 2025 as proof that real relief is reaching households. “This is not propaganda. These are facts backed by figures. We’re not just stabilizing prices; we’re restoring the purchasing power of the common man,” he declared with confidence.

Massive Infrastructure Push and Housing Revolution Underway

Benjamin Kalu concluded his remarks by focusing on infrastructure development, which he believes is the backbone of the Renewed Hope transformation. “You cannot modernize a country without modernizing its roads, housing, and mobility,” he said. He disclosed that 260 new road projects worth N208 billion are already in motion, including flagship undertakings like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

In a bold step toward solving Nigeria’s housing deficit, Benjamin Kalu cited the Renewed Hope City and Estate initiative, which targets 100,000 housing units nationwide. “This isn’t a pipe dream—it’s a real estate revolution tailored for our middle and lower-income citizens,” he affirmed. He called on critics to “come to the ground” and witness the change, rather than “argue from the armchair of pessimism.”
