Sowore Replies Minister Wike: “Criminals Like You Don’t Deserve Leadership; You Should Be At ICC In The Hague”

Sowore Replies Minister Wike: "Criminals Like You Don't Deserve Leadership; You Should Be At ICC In The Hague"

Sowore, a human rights activist and former presidential candidate, has delivered a scathing response to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, following remarks the minister made about his political struggles. In his reply, Sowore accused Wike of being unfit to hold any leadership role, insisting that figures like him belong before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague rather than in public office.

Sowore emphasized that Nigeria’s democratic space has been tainted by individuals who, in his words, have contributed to the decay of governance and the abuse of power. He noted that Wike’s criticisms of his activism were misplaced and reflected a deeper culture of political arrogance. Sowore further argued that the minister’s own track record of governance had left behind a legacy of impunity rather than development.

Wike Defends His Political Stance

Wike, while addressing political issues earlier, had asserted that Sowore’s past ordeals with government authorities were eased only because President Bola Tinubu respects the rule of law. He suggested that without such restraint from the presidency, Sowore’s political activism might have landed him in more dire circumstances.

Wike maintained that Nigeria requires disciplined leadership and criticized activists who, in his view, exploit democratic freedoms for personal gain. His remarks were widely interpreted as a direct swipe at Sowore’s style of activism, which often challenges government officials and policies through outspoken advocacy.

Sowore and Wike in War of Words

In response, described Wike’s narrative as a distortion of reality, stressing that the fight for human rights in Nigeria is not about personal survival but about securing justice and accountability. He argued that Wike’s comments reflect a dismissive attitude toward democratic struggles that ordinary Nigerians endure daily.

Wike, however, has continued to defend his record both as a former governor of Rivers State and as FCT Minister. He insists that his actions are guided by a vision to maintain law and order, even when such decisions attract criticism. Their public exchanges highlight the growing tensions between Nigeria’s political establishment and its critics, underscoring the contentious debate over governance, accountability, and respect for democratic freedoms.
