Seun Kuti Blasts Wizkid FC, Calls Fanbase Ignorant Over Constant Use of Fela’s Name

Afrobeat singer and activist Seun Kuti has sparked fresh controversy after openly criticizing Wizkid’s fan base, popularly known as Wizkid FC. In a strongly worded Instagram video, Seun accused the fans of constantly dragging the name of his late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, into online music debates, describing the act as disrespectful and deeply ignorant.

Seun expressed frustration over how Wizkid FC allegedly compares modern artists to Fela, insisting that such comparisons show a lack of understanding of Afrobeat history and his father’s legacy. He warned fans to stop mentioning Fela in arguments meant to promote contemporary musicians, stressing that Fela’s impact goes far beyond music charts or fan rivalries.

According to Seun, the continued use of Fela’s name in fan wars cheapens the revolutionary work his father stood for. He made it clear that while music conversations are welcome, Fela’s legacy should not be used as a tool for online clout or arguments fueled by blind loyalty.

Keep Fela’s Name Out of Your Mouths” — Seun Kuti Fires at Wizkid FC

Seun Kuti has once again defended the legacy of his late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, after accusing Wizkid FC of repeatedly invoking Fela’s name during online music debates. In his Instagram rant, Seun questioned why fans feel compelled to drag Fela into discussions about modern-day artists.

He argued that calling any contemporary musician the “new Fela” reflects a shallow understanding of who Fela truly was and what he represented. Seun maintained that his father’s influence was rooted in activism, cultural resistance, and fearless confrontation of power, not just hit songs or popularity.

Seun added that if the perceived disrespect toward Fela came from a place of informed defiance, he might have understood it. However, he insisted that what he sees from Wizkid FC is pure ignorance, noting that comparisons often fall apart once people truly examine Fela’s life, message, and sacrifices.

Seun Kuti Condemns Toxic Fan Culture, Defends Fela’s Legacy

Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has condemned what he described as toxic fan culture in the Nigerian music industry, singling out Wizkid FC for repeated attacks and unnecessary comparisons involving his late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. He said such behavior fuels division rather than appreciation of art.

Seun emphasized that impactful music should inspire calm, thought, and reflection, not endless online battles between fan groups. He criticized fans who turn music into a competition, arguing that this mindset distracts from the deeper messages artists are meant to convey.

Reaffirming his stance, Seun stated that he would continue to defend Fela’s name whenever necessary. He concluded by urging fans to leave Fela out of modern fan wars, reminding the public that the Kuti family still supports the wider music community through initiatives like Felabration, which celebrates creativity without disrespect.
