Senator Ali Ndume Fires Warning Shot at APC: “I’ll Jump Ship If Tinubu Fails to Deliver

Senator Ali Ndume has stated unequivocally that while he remains a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), his continued loyalty hinges on President Bola Tinubu’s ability to effect change. “I attended several meetings of the coalition,” he revealed, referring to the growing alliance outside the APC. “If I decided to leave the APC, I will not hide it.” This candid remark underscores a brewing storm within the ruling party’s elite.

Ali Ndume further declared his hope in Tinubu’s leadership, saying he still believes the president can fix the country’s pressing issues. However, he warned that any failure to implement meaningful reforms could push him to leave the APC. “Failure to fix those things may cause me to leave the APC,” he emphasized, sending a strong message of conditional allegiance to the party hierarchy.

Tinubu Would Be on the Streets if He Were in My Position – Ali Ndume

In a bold and controversial statement, Ali Ndume claimed that if the roles were reversed and he were president behaving as Tinubu currently is, the president himself would be on the streets protesting. “I’m not his dependent, I’m his ally,” he stated. “One thing I like and copy from Mr. President is that if we were to swap positions and I were the president doing the same thing he is doing now, he would have been on the street.”

This remark is a powerful critique, exposing the discontent even among supposed allies. By framing himself as a principled actor rather than a sycophantic loyalist, Ndume signals to Nigerians that allegiance should never come at the cost of accountability. The statement is likely to ruffle feathers within Aso Rock and deepen internal party tensions.

El-Rufai Betrayed Our Camp Before 2022 Primaries – Ali Ndume Alleges

Ali Ndume reignited long-standing tensions by accusing former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai of political betrayal. He claims El-Rufai was initially aligned with former minister Rotimi Amaechi during the lead-up to the 2022 APC presidential primaries, but later defected to Tinubu’s camp. “He abandoned our group,” Ndume said, “and up till now, I don’t know what happened between President Tinubu and El-Rufai.”

This disclosure sheds light on a murky chapter in APC’s internal politics and suggests unresolved tensions and shifting alliances. By naming names and implying secret dealings, Ndume exposes the fractured nature of the party leadership and its susceptibility to opportunistic realignments.

Ndume’s Political Career Nears Final Chapter – But He’s Going Out Loud

At 65, Ndume believes his political career is nearing its sunset. “God has given everything to me,” he said, adding that he is prepared to sacrifice his political comfort in order to speak the truth. “The only thing I have to do right now, and I am prepared to die doing it, is to speak the truth and do what is right.”

In a powerful metaphor, Ndume compared the APC to an overloaded ship. “I will not jump ship, but when the ship is getting overloaded with unnecessary cargo and may capsize, then I better consider the small ship,” he warned. This analogy suggests that while he’s not ready to defect yet, the party’s excess baggage could ultimately make it unviable for him to remain onboard.

Emerging Political Coalition: Threat or Democratic Rebirth?

Senator Ndume sees the rising political coalition outside of APC as a “positive development in democracy.” His statement reflects a rare openness to opposition coalitions from within the ruling party ranks. “What I see now is that politicians are decamping, while the people who elected us are not,” he remarked, drawing a sharp contrast between elite maneuvering and the electorate’s disillusionment.

This view opens the floor to a deeper national conversation: Is Nigeria witnessing the birth of a viable alternative to the two-party dominance, or just another cycle of elite defection? Ndume’s comments position him as a potential bridge figure between the old political guard and emerging movements.

Pressure Mounts on Tinubu as Trusted Allies Break Ranks

Ndume’s barrage of criticisms adds to growing unrest within the APC. His willingness to question Tinubu’s actions, El-Rufai’s loyalty, and the party’s ideological coherence indicates a deeper crisis. While he still claims loyalty, his public critiques function as both warning and ultimatum.

In a volatile political landscape, Ndume’s outspoken posture could catalyze further dissent. As 2027 approaches, the Tinubu administration faces a crucial test: whether it can consolidate power while keeping reform-minded allies like Ndume onboard — or risk losing the core coalition that brought it to power.
