You Won’t Return to Senate – Minister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike’s Bold Challenge to Senator Kingibe

You Won’t Return to Senate – Minister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike’s Bold Challenge to Senator Kingibe

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, issued a stark warning to Senator Ireti Heebah Kingibe on Monday, declaring that she would lose the support of the people in the upcoming elections. Wike’s comments came as a direct response to Kingibe’s earlier interview where she accused him of sidelining both her and the masses within the territory.

Addressing the crowd at the Flag-off of the Mabushi Bus Terminal in Abuja, Wike expressed his disappointment over Kingibe’s remarks on Arise TV. He stated, “With all due respect, what you don’t know, you don’t know. It is better to admit ignorance and seek education rather than spread misinformation.” He emphasized the achievements of his administration within a short period, highlighting the lack of legislative support from Kingibe for critical sectors such as education and health.

Wike challenged Kingibe’s popularity, suggesting she run for office again in 2027 to test her real influence. He confidently asserted, “If you are very popular, 2027 come and run under Abuja, we will fail you. Luckily for me, I am the FCT Minister now. So that is my territory and I’m not afraid.” His bold statements reflect a broader political strategy to consolidate his influence and ensure the administration’s policies resonate with the public.

Kingibe’s Critique: Elitism and Neglect of the Masses

Senator Ireti Heebah Kingibe, in her televised interview, criticized Ezenwo Nyesom Wike’s administration, accusing it of focusing primarily on areas inhabited by the elite. She claimed that while some commendable projects had been executed in the city, they had not benefited the masses. Kingibe highlighted that in a supplementary budget of nearly N100 billion, only N19 billion was allocated to projects directly impacting the people.

Kingibe’s constituents have expressed dissatisfaction with Ezenwo Nyesom Wike’s prioritization of elite areas, which she argues neglects the broader needs of the population. She stated, “My constituents are complaining that Wike’s concentration has been on areas where the elite live. While the minister has done some commendable jobs in the city, it has not trickled down to the masses.” Her remarks underscore a significant disconnect between the administration’s projects and the expectations of the general populace.

The senator’s accusations bring to light the ongoing struggle for equitable development within the FCT, highlighting the need for policies that address the needs of all residents, not just a select few. This critique sets the stage for a contentious political battle, as Ezenwo Nyesom Wike and Kingibe represent differing visions for the territory’s future.

Speaker Abbas Praises Ezenwo Nyesom Wike’s Inclusive Development Approach

Contrasting Kingibe’s critique, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, lauded Ezenwo Nyesom Wike’s leadership and vision at the same event. Abbas commended Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for his rapid and efficient completion of numerous strategic road and infrastructure projects, noting that his efforts had transformed Abuja into a more modern and dynamic city. “His dedication and commitment have made Abuja a more modern and dynamic city, often leaving even long-term residents pleasantly surprised by the rapid developments,” Abbas said.

Abbas praised Ezenwo Nyesom Wike’s holistic approach to development, which extends beyond the city’s nucleus to encompass the Area Councils. This inclusive strategy, he noted, promotes balanced growth and ensures that infrastructure and economic advancements reach all communities, enhancing the quality of life for all residents. “The successes recorded by the Minister justify the wise decision of President Bola Tinubu to entrust Wike with this vital portfolio,” he added.

Abbas’s commendation highlighted Ezenwo Nyesom Wike’s focus on comprehensive urban development and his commitment to addressing security issues through the establishment of bus and taxi terminals. Wike emphasized that these terminals are part of the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at reducing insecurity by regulating the operations of public transport. His efforts are seen as a critical step toward modernizing Abuja and ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.

Political Tensions and Future Implications

The altercation between Ezenwo Nyesom Wike and Kingibe underscores the growing political tensions within the FCT. Wike’s assertive remarks reflect his confidence in the administration’s achievements and his determination to maintain control over the territory. He dismissed the need for Kingibe’s approval or friendship, emphasizing that the administration’s focus is on delivering results for the residents.

“If you are angry that people are praising us, by next year your BP level will go very high because the praises you would see would be too much,” Wike warned. This conflict sets the stage for a potentially contentious political climate as the 2027 elections approach, with Wike signaling his readiness to challenge Kingibe’s position and influence within the FCT.

Senator Kingibe had previously criticized the Wike-led administration on television, highlighting her disapproval of its policies and distancing herself from the minister. The ongoing public spat between the two prominent figures is likely to shape the political landscape in the FCT, drawing attention to the upcoming electoral battles and the administration’s performance
