President Bola Tinubu Drags Siemens Back to the Table — Vows to End Nigeria’s Power Failure

President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to overhaul Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure as he met with Siemens Energy’s Middle East and Africa Managing Director, Dietmar Siersdorfer, at the State House in Abuja. The meeting, attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, marks a major push to revive the long-delayed Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) — a Nigeria-Siemens collaboration designed to significantly improve power transmission and distribution across the country.

President Bola Tinubu emphasized that stable power supply is no longer optional but critical to Nigeria’s economic recovery and industrial competitiveness. He noted that without reliable electricity, job creation, industrial development, and foreign investment will remain severely constrained. According to Tinubu, the partnership with Siemens represents a strategic step toward breaking decades of underperformance in Nigeria’s energy sector.

President Bola Tinubu highlighted that the renewed partnership will no longer be bogged down by bureaucracy and delays witnessed under past administrations. He maintained that his leadership is focused on delivery, measurable implementation timelines, and direct accountability to Nigerians who deserve uninterrupted power.

President Bola Tinubu Prioritizes First Phase of Siemens Power Delivery Timeline

President Bola Tinubu instructed all relevant ministries and regulatory bodies to remove bottlenecks immediately and accelerate progress on the first phase of the Siemens initiative — which includes upgrading distribution transformers, increasing transmission capacity, and installing critical substations nationwide. He stressed that power reforms must match the urgency of Nigeria’s economic challenges.

President Bola Tinubu assured Siemens that Nigeria is prepared to unlock financing, restructure project workflows, and ensure transparency in procurement and execution. He expressed confidence that the collaboration will lead to immediate results, particularly in industrial hubs, urban centers, and economic corridors currently starved of stable power.

President Bola Tinubu reiterated that Nigeria cannot continue to operate a fragile, outdated electricity grid that collapses under minimal load pressure. He framed the Siemens partnership as a non-negotiable investment into Nigeria’s future, one he expects to translate into visible improvements in power supply within months — not years.

President Bola Tinubu Sets Clear Accountability Targets for Energy Reform

President Bola Tinubu stated that Nigeria must exit the era of “endless power reform without progress,” and pledged that the Siemens partnership will be aggressively monitored and publicly evaluated. He instructed that timelines, milestones, and deliverables be published for Nigerians to track progress in real time.

President Bola Tinubu acknowledged that electricity reform is central to unlocking industries, digital innovation, agricultural value chains, and small business growth. He stressed that the current administration will prioritize energy infrastructure as a catalyst for GDP expansion and a gateway to reducing Nigeria’s dependence on fuel generators, which cost households and businesses billions annually.

Tinubu concluded by stating that Nigeria is ready to make the Siemens project a global model for successful power reform in Africa. He expressed confidence that with Siemens’ technology and Nigeria’s renewed political will, the era of unreliable electricity is nearing its end.
