President Bola Tinubu has called for peaceful, orderly, and transparent elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano State, and Rivers State ahead of Saturday’s crucial polls. The elections, which will be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, include Area Council elections in the FCT and bye-elections across selected constituencies in Kano and Rivers. The President emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order throughout the electoral process.
In a strongly worded statement, President Bola Tinubu urged voters, political actors, and electoral officials to conduct themselves responsibly before, during, and after the elections. He stressed that democracy flourishes best in an atmosphere of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect. According to the President, Nigeria’s democratic journey depends heavily on the credibility and integrity of its elections.

Tinubu Warns Against Electoral Violence and Directs Security Agencies to Act Professionally
President Bola Tinubu issued a firm warning against electoral violence, voter intimidation, and inflammatory political rhetoric. He cautioned political parties and candidates to avoid actions capable of undermining the peace and credibility of the elections. The President reiterated that violence and threats have no place in Nigeria’s democratic system.
Directing security agencies to maintain professionalism, President Bola Tinubu emphasized that their primary responsibility is to protect voters, electoral officials, and public property. He instructed security personnel to act impartially and ensure that every eligible citizen can cast their vote without fear of harassment or disruption. The sanctity of the ballot, he said, must remain inviolable.
The President further stated that the credibility of the elections in Kano, Rivers, and the FCT depends significantly on the conduct of security operatives. By maintaining neutrality and upholding the rule of law, security agencies will help safeguard the democratic process and prevent any breakdown of order during the polls.
INEC Charged to Ensure Timely Accreditation, Accurate Collation and Prompt Result Transmission
President Bola Tinubu also tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission with ensuring strict compliance with the provisions of the 2026 Electoral Act. He emphasized the need for timely voter accreditation, accurate vote collation, and prompt electronic transmission of results to maintain transparency and public confidence.
The President highlighted that efficient logistics, proper deployment of electoral materials, and adherence to due process are essential to delivering credible elections. He expressed confidence in INEC’s preparedness to oversee the Area Council polls in the FCT and the bye-elections in Kano and Rivers without logistical setbacks.
Reaffirming the Nigerian Government’s commitment to democratic progress, President Bola Tinubu expressed optimism that the elections would reflect the true will of the people. He concluded that credible and peaceful polls will not only consolidate Nigeria’s democracy but also strengthen governance and national unity across the country.
