President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria will always pause on the annual Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day to pay solemn tribute to the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for the unity, peace, and freedom of the country. Speaking at the national commemoration ceremony in Abuja, the President described the fallen soldiers as the unshakable pillars upon which Nigeria’s sovereignty rests. He emphasized that their courage in the face of terror, insurgency, and national threats continues to sustain the nation’s democratic journey.
The President noted that the day is not merely ceremonial but a sacred moment of national reflection. According to him, every generation of Nigerians owes a debt of gratitude to the Armed Forces whose gallantry has preserved the territorial integrity of the nation. He stressed that without the sacrifices of these heroes, Nigeria would not enjoy the relative stability that allows social and economic activities to thrive across the federation.
Tinubu further stated that the government would continue to document and celebrate the stories of fallen personnel so that their legacies remain alive in national consciousness. He urged citizens to see the Remembrance Day as a call to patriotism, unity, and collective responsibility toward nation-building. The President reaffirmed that Nigeria will never forget those who paid the ultimate price in defence of the fatherland.
Tinubu Consoles Families of Fallen Soldiers, Promises Lasting Support
Addressing families of deceased service members, President Tinubu acknowledged the immeasurable pain and void left behind by their loved ones. He described their loss as a profound sacrifice that no amount of recognition can fully compensate. The President assured widows, children, and relatives that the nation shares in their grief and will continue to stand by them through meaningful welfare programmes.
He explained that the federal government is strengthening existing support structures for military families, including scholarship schemes, housing initiatives, and healthcare benefits. Tinubu admitted that previous efforts had not always met expectations but promised a renewed and transparent approach to caring for those left behind. He insisted that honouring the fallen must go beyond speeches to include concrete actions that improve the lives of their dependants.
The President also used the occasion to call on state governments, private institutions, and well-meaning Nigerians to support military families. He stressed that remembrance is a collective duty and not the responsibility of government alone. According to him, when society cares for the families of heroes, it sends a powerful message that sacrifice for the nation will never be in vain.
Commitment to Welfare of Serving Personnel and National Security
President Tinubu commended serving officers and soldiers across the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force for their unwavering discipline and professionalism in protecting the country. He praised their resilience in ongoing operations against terrorism, banditry, oil theft, and other security challenges. The President noted that their dedication continues to earn Nigeria respect among nations and confidence among citizens.
Reaffirming his role as Commander-in-Chief, Tinubu pledged to prioritise the welfare, training, and modern equipment needs of the Armed Forces. He stated that a secure Nigeria can only be guaranteed when those on the frontlines are motivated and treated with dignity. The administration, he said, is investing in improved barracks, better insurance packages, and advanced technology to strengthen military capacity.
The President concluded that national security remains the foundation for economic growth and social stability.
He urged Nigerians to support the military through cooperation and respect, noting that the battle for peace requires a united front. Tinubu assured that his government will continue to stand firmly behind the Armed Forces as they defend the nation on land, sea, and air.
