The police in Kaduna State have arrested two suspected kidnappers following a carefully coordinated sting operation initiated through intelligence provided by their victims. The police confirmed that the suspects were apprehended on Tuesday at a location arranged as a meeting point after the women, who had earlier been abducted and assaulted, discreetly alerted security operatives.
According to the Security operatives, the two married women were kidnapped and held in captivity for several days before their eventual release. During that period, the suspects allegedly subjected them to repeated sexual assault. Investigators said the victims adopted a survival strategy by pretending to cooperate with the criminals, a move the police say later proved crucial to securing evidence.
The police explained that after regaining freedom, the women maintained communication with the suspects under guidance from detectives. This interaction enabled the police to track the movements of the alleged kidnappers and design a controlled operation that led to their arrest without gunfire.
Police Commend Victims’ Courage, Launch Wider Investigation
Senior police officers involved in the case described the victims’ actions as courageous and instrumental to the breakthrough. The Kaduna Security operatives command stated that the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation to determine their involvement in other abduction incidents within the state.
The Security operatives further disclosed that preliminary findings suggest the arrested men may be part of a larger criminal ring. Detectives from the Security operatives anti-kidnapping unit are expanding the investigation to identify accomplices, hideouts, and sources of weapons used in previous operations.
Human rights groups have urged the police to ensure the privacy and protection of the survivors while the case proceeds. The Security operatives assured the public that the identities of the victims would remain confidential and that trauma counselling is being arranged in collaboration with relevant agencies.
Security operatives Prepare Charges, Reassure Kaduna Residents
The Kaduna Security operatives command confirmed that formal charges including kidnapping, rape, and criminal conspiracy are being prepared against the suspects. Legal officers working with the police said the case file would be forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions once investigations are completed.
In a statement, the Security operatives urged residents to continue providing timely information on suspicious activities, stressing that community partnership remains essential to tackling violent crime. The police also warned citizens against engaging directly with kidnappers without law-enforcement involvement, noting that such actions can endanger lives.
As the suspects await arraignment, the Security operatives reiterated their commitment to dismantling kidnapping networks across Kaduna State. The command assured the public that patrols and intelligence-led operations would be intensified to restore confidence and safety.
