PDP to Present Certificate of Return to Ekiti Governorship Candidate on December 10

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that it will present the Certificate of Return to its Ekiti State governorship candidate, Dr. Oluwole Oluyede, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. The ceremony, scheduled for 2 pm at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, marks the party’s next formal step ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election in the state.

PDP Formalises Governorship Candidacy

In a statement issued on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Enemobong, the PDP explained that the presentation follows the successful conduct of the party’s primary election as well as its formal ratification by the Appeal Panel. The party noted that the Certificate of Return signifies official recognition of Dr. Oluyede as its flagbearer for the forthcoming election.

According to the statement, the National Working Committee took the decision after reviewing the outcome of the recent primary held in early November. PDP officials also emphasised that the event forms part of broader preparations for what is expected to be a competitive governorship contest in Ekiti State.

PDP Leaders and Stakeholders Expected at Abuja Event

The PDP invited its leaders and stakeholders nationwide to witness the presentation ceremony. Among those expected are members of the National Executive Committee, serving and former governors, members of the Board of Trustees, current and past lawmakers, as well as party supporters.

The statement further noted that the gathering is intended not only to celebrate the emergence of the candidate but also to reinforce unity within the party. According to the PDP, strengthening internal cohesion remains central to its strategy as it prepares for the 2026 governorship election.

Dr. Oluyede Emerged After Competitive Primary

Dr. Oluyede, a medical professional, secured victory at the PDP primary election held between November 8 and early November 9. He polled 279 votes, defeating Funso Ayeni, who scored 239 votes, and Funmilayo Ogun, who garnered 17 votes.

The outcome, which followed hours of voting and collation, was regarded by party officials as a reflection of internal democratic processes. The Peoples Democratic Party has since moved to consolidate support across party structures in order to boost its chances in the next electoral cycle.

With the presentation of the Certificate of Return scheduled for Wednesday, the Peoples Democratic Party has taken another step in its preparations for the Ekiti governorship election. The upcoming event is expected to set the tone for Peoples Democratic Party mobilisation and coordination in the lead-up to June 2026.
