PDP Southwest Approves New Interim Administrative Team for Ekiti

ADO-EKITI—The Southwest Zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a bold step to stabilize and revamp its structure in Ekiti State by approving a three-member interim administrative team. This move, aimed at ensuring smooth party operations, aligns with Part VII, Section 26(2) of the PDP Constitution and enjoys the endorsement of the National Working Committee (NWC) as well as Southwest PDP governors.

The newly constituted interim team includes Chief Sanya Atofarati as Chairman, Mrs. Lanre Fajuyi as Secretary, and Chief Adeola Ogunrinde as Member. The appointments were disclosed in a statement signed by the Zonal Secretary, Barr. Olumuyiwa Obanewa, and made available to journalists following a zonal meeting held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

The appointed interim administrators are expected to assume duty immediately, beginning preliminary work in anticipation of the arrival of the National Interface Committee. This team will oversee party administration, strategic planning, and coordinate grassroots activities across Ekiti State.

Caretaker Committee Commended for Party Repositioning

In the same statement, the PDP Southwest Zonal leadership expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing Ekiti State Caretaker Committee, chaired by Chief Dare Adeleke. The zone applauded the committee’s efforts in restructuring and repositioning the party, describing its stewardship as “dedicated” and “tireless.”

“The committee’s work has laid a solid foundation upon which the party can now build and consolidate ahead of future electoral engagements,” the statement read. It credited the Adeleke-led team with stabilizing the party during a critical transitional period and revitalizing its internal systems and public image.

This commendation signals an acknowledgment of the strategic importance of Ekiti State in the Southwest political landscape and underscores the PDP’s readiness to build upon the momentum generated under the caretaker leadership.

Fact-Finding Committee to Assess Party Health

In a further bid to bolster internal structures, the PDP Southwest Zone has constituted a five-member Fact-Finding Committee tasked with conducting a comprehensive assessment of the party’s current state in Ekiti. The committee will provide a detailed, independent report to the National Working Committee.

The Fact-Finding Committee comprises Barr. Olumuyiwa Obanewa as Chairman, with Comrade Seyi Bamidele, Barr. Benson Amuwa, Mrs. Oluwakemi Bello, and Chief Tunji Adeyemo as members. Their mandate includes evaluating party structures, identifying challenges, and proposing solutions for internal growth and electoral competitiveness.

This development reflects the party’s commitment to introspection and strategic planning, providing a data-driven foundation for its next phase of political engagement in the state.

Reconciliation Efforts to Bridge Internal Divides

A key priority for the incoming team and the NWC-constituted National Interface Committee is fostering reconciliation among aggrieved members within the Ekiti PDP. Internal discontent and factional divisions have historically impeded the party’s electoral performance in the state.

According to the statement, the Reconciliation Committee will engage with critical stakeholders to harmonize interests and resolve lingering disputes. The aim is to create a united front ahead of upcoming political contests.

The zonal leadership emphasized that party unity, justice, and internal democracy remain central to its approach. “The PDP in the Southwest remains unwavering in its commitment to unity, justice, and internal democracy,” the statement concluded.

Southwest PDP Eyes Broader Electoral Goals

The restructuring efforts in Ekiti are part of a broader strategy by the PDP Southwest Zone to position itself more competitively ahead of the 2027 general elections. Party officials believe that by entrenching solid administrative structures, addressing grievances, and boosting grassroots engagement, the PDP can reclaim political ground in the region.

Observers see the new administrative appointments and reconciliation strategies as signals of a more proactive, coordinated effort to regain control of Ekiti, a traditionally contested state. With strong support from the NWC and state governors, the Southwest PDP appears poised for a renewed push.

The coming months will be pivotal, as the new interim team begins the groundwork that could define the party’s fortunes in the state and serve as a model for similar reforms across the region
