Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have intensified efforts to address internal party disputes by urging the National Working Committee (NWC) to convene a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on March 18, 2025. This resolution emerged from a high-level meeting of the PDP Governors’ Forum, held at the Government House in Asaba, Delta State.
Governors Back Court Judgment on NWC Crisis
During the meeting, the PDP Governors’ Forum, led by its Chairman and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, expressed satisfaction with ongoing efforts to resolve disputes within the NWC, particularly concerning the position of the National Secretary. The Forum reaffirmed its support for the Court of Appeal’s judgment on the matter, signaling a commitment to legal resolutions in the party’s internal affairs.
To ensure full compliance with the court’s decision, the governors advised the NWC to establish a structured mechanism for implementing the ruling. They further recommended that the NEC meeting, initially scheduled for March 18, be rescheduled to March 13, 2025, after reviewing all legal requirements for convening a valid session. This move is seen as a strategic effort to foster stability and unity within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governors Applaud Efforts to Improve Governance and Security
Beyond party politics, the PDP Governors’ Forum commended state governors for implementing policies aimed at improving the welfare of citizens and driving sustainable development. The Forum acknowledged various initiatives focused on economic empowerment, infrastructural expansion, and environmental sustainability across PDP-controlled states.
Additionally, the governors expressed strong support for the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies, recognizing their dedication to maintaining peace and combating security threats. However, they raised concerns over the resurgence of violent non-state actors and called for a robust security framework to tackle growing instability. The Forum emphasized the need for increased investment in intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and community-based security initiatives.
Delta State Governor Commended for Developmental Strides
The meeting’s host, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, received accolades from his colleagues for his administration’s significant achievements in governance. The governors praised his efforts in infrastructural development, environmental management, and social welfare programs, which have positively impacted Delta State residents.
They further lauded Oborevwori’s commitment to tackling insecurity in the state, noting that his government’s proactive policies have contributed to a more stable and business-friendly environment. The Forum extended its gratitude to the government and people of Delta State for their hospitality and support in ensuring the success of the crucial meeting.
PDP Reaffirms Commitment to a Better Nigeria
In a rallying call to Nigerians, the PDP Governors’ Forum urged citizens not to lose hope despite prevailing economic and security challenges. The Forum reiterated the party’s dedication to restoring the country to the prosperity and stability experienced before 2015. They assured Nigerians that the PDP remains committed to policies that will reduce the cost of living, improve national security, and foster greater unity.
The governors pledged to continue engaging with party stakeholders, security agencies, and economic experts to develop strategies that will enhance governance at all levels. As preparations for the 2027 elections intensify, the PDP Governors’ Forum is positioning itself as a stabilizing force within the party, advocating for reforms that will strengthen the opposition and restore public confidence in its leadership.
