The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has inaugurated a new set of officials to steer its affairs for the next four years. The leadership was elected during the party’s state congress held on Saturday in Jos, the state capital.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr. David Umbugadu, announced the election of 39 officials who emerged through a consensus arrangement, following a transparent voting process observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other stakeholders. Umbugadu emphasized that the exercise was conducted in accordance with party guidelines and democratic principles.
“The process of this election is transparent and clear. We did this in the presence of INEC and other election stakeholders. By the powers conferred on me by our great party, the PDP, I hereby declare all of you returned elected,” Umbugadu stated during the official declaration.
Raymond Dabo Takes Charge of PDP Affairs In plateau State, Promises Dedication
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman of the PDP in Plateau State, Mr. Raymond Dabo, expressed gratitude to party members for their confidence in his leadership. He assured them of his dedication and commitment to strengthening the party’s structure and preparing it for future electoral contests.
Dabo pledged to prioritize internal harmony, transparency, and inclusiveness in his administration, noting that effective leadership would be crucial to reclaiming and consolidating the PDP’s influence across the state. “Our goal is to build a united, people-centered party that reflects the ideals of democracy and service,” he said.
Party delegates and stakeholders who attended the congress described the election as peaceful and orderly, commending the state leadership for ensuring a credible process.
Governor Mutfwang Calls for Unity Among PDP Members and Focus on 2027
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who graced the occasion, congratulated the newly elected officials and urged them to prioritize unity within the party. He reminded them that healing internal divisions and reconciling aggrieved members were vital steps towards building a stronger political front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Your first job is to unite the party and resolve all divisions. The time of exclusion is over. Let’s allow everyone to resolve their grievances,” Mutfwang said. He further advised the new executives to set aside personal ambitions and work towards the collective interest of the PDP in Plateau State.
The governor expressed optimism that with renewed leadership and unity, the party was well-positioned to maintain its relevance and competitiveness in the state’s political landscape.
The successful conduct of the Plateau PDP congress and the emergence of new officials signal a renewed commitment to internal democracy and party cohesion.
