No fewer than 500 members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) from Fagge and Ungogo Local Government Areas of Kano State have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors were formally received on Wednesday by the Managing Director of the Hadejia–Jam’are River Basin Development Authority, Rabiu Bichi, who described their decision as a reflection of growing public confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and the APC’s progressive vision for Nigeria.
Bichi noted that the All Progressives Congress’s development-oriented policies continue to attract support across the country. He cited the defection of some state governors to the ruling party as evidence of the APC’s expanding influence and strength.
He assured the new members of full integration and equal opportunities within the party, emphasizing that “no member will be marginalised or sidelined.”
Tinubu’s Policies Driving Renewed Confidence
According to Bichi, the APC-led Federal Government’s policies on food security, economic stability, and infrastructure development are yielding positive results. He highlighted the role of the Hadejia–Jam’are River Basin in advancing modern irrigation techniques that align with President Tinubu’s food security agenda.
The former APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, represented at the event by the Kano State All Progressives Congress Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, lauded the defectors for choosing to join the party. Ganduje said the move signified the people’s trust in the APC’s ability to deliver on its promises.
Similarly, the Kano CentralAll Progressives Congress Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Ungogo, stated that Tinubu’s economic policies have begun to revive public confidence in the APC. He expressed optimism that the influx of new members would further consolidate the party’s political dominance in Kano State.
Defectors Pledge Loyalty, Praise APC’s Development Agenda
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, some former NNPP members said their decision to switch allegiance stemmed from the APC’s visible efforts in improving governance and citizens’ welfare. They commended the party for what they described as “consistent developmental strides” and reaffirmed their readiness to contribute to the All Progressives Congress’s growth.
The defectors also expressed optimism that their integration into the party would enhance grassroots participation and further strengthen theAll Progressives Congress’s position ahead of future elections in Kano State.
Bichi concluded the ceremony by urging the new members to remain loyal, active, and united in supporting the government’s efforts to reposition Nigeria’s economy for sustainable growth.
