Osun PDP Leadership Caucus Declares Total Loyalty to Governor Adeleke, Vows to Follow Him Wherever He Goes

OSOGBO, OSUN STATE — In a powerful display of political solidarity, the leadership caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has declared unwavering support for Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke. Amid swirling rumours of a potential defection, party leaders have resolved to stand by the governor “wherever he goes,” passing a unanimous vote of confidence in his leadership and decisions.

PDP Caucus Endorses Adeleke Amid Defection Rumours

At a high-level meeting held on Saturday at the Banquet Hall of the Osun Government House, top members of the Osun PDP pledged their full loyalty to Governor Adeleke. The meeting, convened in response to growing speculation about Adeleke’s possible defection to another political party, ended with a firm communique expressing the party’s commitment to follow the governor’s political trajectory.

According to a statement released by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson for the governor, the PDP leadership caucus “passed a vote of confidence on Governor Ademola Adeleke,” endorsing any decision he might take regarding the persistent defection rumours. The party noted that the governor is still consulting with stakeholders at both the state and national levels before making any final decisions.

Caucus Commends Governor’s Leadership and Performance

During the meeting, participants lauded Governor Adeleke’s style of governance, achievements, and performance since taking office. From infrastructural development to workers’ welfare and political stability, the caucus praised the governor for restoring hope and vibrancy in Osun’s political landscape.

Leaders across various organs of the party expressed satisfaction with Adeleke’s consultative leadership, describing him as a unifier and bridge-builder. “The Governor has demonstrated visionary leadership, and this caucus believes his judgment is sound. We are proud of the progress Osun has recorded under his watch,” the communique read.

Inclusive Meeting Draws Stakeholders from Across the Party

The well-attended meeting drew representation from every key wing of the Osun PDP and government institutions. Present were leaders from the National Assembly caucus, State Assembly caucus, State Executive Council, PDP State Executive, the Forum of Special Advisers, the Elders Caucus, and the Osun chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).

Notable attendees included Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi; Deputy Senate Minority Leader Senator Lere Oyewumi; PDP State Chairman Hon. Sunday Bisi; House Speaker Rt Hon Adewale Egbedun; former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and South-West PDP Vice Chairman, Engr Kamorudeen Ajisafe. Their presence signaled a united front within the party hierarchy.

Call for Continued Consultations and Unity

Despite the strong endorsement, the caucus acknowledged that Governor Adeleke is still weighing his options. The communique urged him to continue extensive consultations before taking any decisive steps, especially considering the far-reaching implications such a political move could have.

“The caucus recognized the sensitive nature of the current political atmosphere and encouraged Governor Adeleke to deepen his discussions with stakeholders at both the state and national levels,” said Olawale Rasheed. “Nonetheless, they reaffirmed their readiness to support him wholeheartedly in whatever decision he eventually makes.”

Implications for Osun Politics and PDP’s Future

The PDP caucus’s bold declaration is likely to reshape the political discourse in Osun State and beyond. Adeleke’s influence appears to have solidified across party lines, placing him in a commanding position within the political sphere. Should he choose to leave the PDP, the bulk defection of the party’s structure in Osun could significantly alter the party’s prospects in future elections.

Observers say the situation underscores Adeleke’s formidable political capital, which has grown since his 2022 electoral victory. Whether he remains with the PDP or charts a new course, one thing is clear: Governor Ademola Adeleke has the full weight of Osun PDP behind him.
