OSUN PDP, APC TRADE WORDS OVER ALLEGED CONSENSUS LISTBoth parties clash over leaked document ahead of 2026 and 2027 elections

Political tension heightened in Osun State over the weekend as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) traded accusations over a purported consensus list allegedly containing names of APC candidates for major elective positions ahead of the 2026 governorship and 2027 general elections.

The ruling PDP, in a statement signed by its state chairman, Sunday Bisi, described the emergence of the document as a sign of “confusion and desperation” within the opposition. The list, which circulated widely across WhatsApp groups on Sunday, reportedly allocated key positions including the governorship, deputy governorship, and all three senatorial slots to selected APC figures.

The alleged list, titled “REVEALED: APC CONSENSUS LIST FOR 2026/2027 RACE,” named the current Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Bola Oyebamiji, as the supposed governorship candidate, with Remi Omowaiye, a former Commissioner for Works and now Executive Director at the Federal Housing Authority, as his deputy. Also featured were Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy; Senator Iyiola Omisore, former APC National Secretary; and Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Chairman of Mutual Benefits Assurance, as consensus senatorial candidates for Osun Central, East, and West districts respectively.

PDP Says List Reflects APC’s “Confusion and Desperation”

Reacting to the development, the PDP claimed the leaked list only confirmed the internal crisis brewing within the APC. According to Sunday Bisi, the opposition’s alleged attempt to impose candidates is proof that the party lacks cohesion and a credible roadmap to regain the trust of Osun residents.

Bisi asserted that governance, not propaganda, would determine the outcome of the next election. “Osun people know the difference between hardship and hope,” he said. “They have experienced governance under both parties and are proudly standing with the PDP, the party that has restored light, dignity, and direction through IMOLE.”

He emphasized that the PDP’s support base is deeply rooted in public trust, citing the administration’s commitment to regular salary and pension payments, improved welfare, and restored confidence in public institutions. “The people can now plan their lives because they trust the system again,” Bisi added, describing the alleged APC consensus arrangement as a “recycled plan of tired and deceitful politicians.”

APC Counters: “The List Is Fake, PDP Is Desperate”

In a swift response, the APC dismissed the purported list as a fabrication by the ruling PDP designed to create disunity within the opposition. The party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, described the document as “beer parlour gossip” and urged the public to disregard it.

Olabisi maintained that no such consensus had been discussed or agreed upon within the APC, accusing the PDP of orchestrating the story to divert attention from governance challenges. “Our party did not compile any consensus list. The one in circulation is a product of drunken imaginations designed to cause disunity among our aspirants,” he said.

He further added that the APC remains united and confident in its ability to reclaim power in 2026. “Any of our governorship aspirants is capable of sending Governor Ademola Adeleke back to Atlanta or wherever he came from. This attempt at mischief is dead on arrival,” Olabisi declared.

Analysts Warn of Rising Political Tension

Observers say the exchange underscores the growing political rivalry between both parties as Osun heads into another election cycle. The controversy over the alleged list, they note, may be an early sign of intense internal and external power struggles within the state’s political landscape.

While the PDP continues to tout its achievements under Governor Adeleke as evidence of renewed public trust, the APC insists that it remains a formidable alternative ready to return the state to what it calls “progressive governance.” Political analysts, however, warn that if both parties continue to prioritize accusations over policy discourse, Osun voters may become disenchanted ahead of 2026.
