Olumide Akpata, Edo 2024 Gubernitorial Aspirat Denies Defection to APC, Labor Party Candidate Dispels Rumors

Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the 2024 Edo State governorship election, has denied reports suggesting that he has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking on the matter, Akpata described the speculation as false and misleading, urging supporters and the public to disregard it.

The former President of the Nigerian Bar Association emphasized his continued commitment to the Labour Party, stating that he remains focused on the party’s agenda and campaign promises. He noted that political opponents may be behind the rumors, aimed at distracting voters ahead of the polls.

Olumide Akpata reiterated that his candidacy under the LP banner is intact and that he has no intention of abandoning the mandate given to him by party members and supporters.

Campaign Message Remains Unchanged

Olumide Akpata explained that his campaign is driven by a vision for a more accountable, transparent, and people-centered government in Edo State. He stressed that the Labour Party represents an alternative to the old order of politics and assured his supporters that he would remain faithful to this vision.

According to him, the circulation of false news about his defection is a sign that opponents are rattled by the growing acceptance of his candidacy. He, however, urged his supporters to remain calm, focused, and resilient as the campaign progresses.

Political observers note that such rumors are not unusual during election seasons, as rival camps often use them to destabilize opponents.

Reassurance to Supporters

Olumide Akpata reaffirmed that he will continue to run on the Labour Party platform until the end of the electoral process. He encouraged party members and loyalists to ignore distractions and remain united in the mission to bring meaningful change to Edo State.

He also cautioned against the spread of misinformation, urging media platforms and individuals to verify stories before publishing or sharing them. He assured that his campaign team would continue to provide accurate updates as the election season unfolds.
