Nollywood actor Yomi Fabiyi has openly defied a restraining order issued by a Magistrate Court in Ikeja, Lagos, which barred him and others from mentioning the name of Omowunmi, the widow of late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
In a strong response, Fabiyi maintained that he would not be silenced and would continue to reference Wunmi in connection with the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s untimely death. The actor alleged that Wunmi still has questions to answer, insisting that her presence at the time of the incident warrants further scrutiny.
His statements have deepened ongoing tensions between supporters of Wunmi and individuals questioning her role in the aftermath of Mohbad’s passing, reigniting public debate around the late singer’s controversial death.
You Cannot Silence Me” –Yomi Fabiyi’s Statement
In a fiery address posted online, Yomi Fabiyi dismissed the court order, accusing Wunmi of attempting to use the judiciary to shield herself from accountability. He questioned why her name should not be mentioned in connection with Mohbad’s death, given that she was reportedly at home when the tragedy occurred.
“Wunmi, you went to get a court order that I and some other people should not mention your name again. I will continue to mention your name,” Fabiyi declared. “Were you not in the house when Mohbad died? Is it Funke Akindele’s name I should mention or Iyabo Ojo’s?”
He further accused Wunmi of leveraging her influence and financial resources to silence critics, while emphasizing that he had not formally accused her of causing Mohbad’s death but believed she must face police investigation. Fabiyi added: “We are talking of an innocent boy who was killed untimely here. Who do you think you are dealing with?”
Reactions and Legal Implications
The restraining order was reportedly secured by Wunmi through her legal representatives, who argued that constant public references to her name have subjected her to emotional distress and reputational damage. The court’s decision was intended to de-escalate the situation, but Fabiyi’s refusal to comply may now trigger further legal consequences.
Observers within the legal community note that disobeying a court order could amount to contempt of court, a serious offense that may carry penalties if pursued. Meanwhile, public reactions remain sharply divided, with some Nigerians praising Fabiyi for “speaking truth to power,” while others accuse him of harassment and worsening the grief of Mohbad’s bereaved family.
The Lagos State Police Command has not issued any official statement regarding Yomi Fabiyi’s latest outburst, but calls are growing louder for the authorities to ensure due process in the ongoing investigations surrounding the late singer’s death.
