No Lawsuit, No Crisis: Anambra PDP Elders Dismiss Rumors, Warn NWC Against Executive Shake-Up

The Anambra State Elders Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sounded a note of warning to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) over speculations of a plot to dissolve the duly elected state executive. Rising from a meeting on Friday at the residence of elder statesman, Senator Ben Ndi Obi, the council declared that such a move would amount to deliberate destabilization ahead of crucial elections in the state.

In a communiqué signed by its chairman, Chief Felix Oli, and secretary, Dr. Odili Ojukwu, the council emphasized that the current executives emerged through a peaceful and transparent state congress held late last year. It added that there has been no protest or litigation challenging the legitimacy of the congress or its outcome.

The elders insisted that any attempt by the NWC to undermine the Anambra executive could fracture the relative peace currently enjoyed by the state chapter. “The sudden propagation of falsehoods against a duly constituted executive committee is both regrettable and concerning,” the communiqué read.

Peaceful Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement

The Elders Council noted that the present leadership of the state PDP has been performing admirably, engaging stakeholders across board and maintaining cordial working relations with the national leadership. According to the communiqué, no group within the party has alleged marginalization, nor has any member claimed injustice under the current executive.

They maintained that the chapter enjoys stability and inclusiveness, describing the ongoing rumors of disbandment as attempts to create unnecessary conflict. “We respectfully urge the National Working Committee and PDP Governors’ Forum to recognize that any move capable of destabilizing the legitimate structure of our party in Anambra State may inadvertently be construed as an attempt to weaken internal cohesion,” the elders stated.

The council further stressed that undermining the state executive at this stage could erode confidence in the credibility of both the forthcoming November 2025 Anambra governorship election and the party’s national convention scheduled for the same month.

No Lawsuit, No Grounds for Dissolution

The council categorically dismissed reports of litigation against the Anambra State PDP executive, describing them as fabrications designed to mislead the NWC. It stated that no individual or group has filed any court case to challenge the state congress or the emergence of its executives.

“The Council wishes to set the record straight to guide both the NWC and party members: there is no legal action pending against the Anambra State Executive. Rumors suggesting otherwise are entirely false,” the statement declared.

Elders called on the NWC to act with caution and not succumb to manipulations by individuals bent on destabilizing the party. They stressed that succumbing to such influences would be tantamount to reversing the gains made in strengthening the PDP in Anambra State.

Commendation for NWC’s Past Efforts

Despite their reservations about the rumored dissolution plan, the elders expressed gratitude to the national leadership of the PDP, led by Ambassador Iliya Damagun, for its role in stabilizing the party during past crises. They commended the NWC for organizing what they described as “the most transparent and successful state congress in the history of Anambra PDP.”

They recalled that the NWC’s timely intervention in setting up a caretaker committee and ensuring a credible state congress was pivotal in restoring unity within the chapter. According to them, undoing that progress would not only discredit the national leadership but also cast doubt on its commitment to internal democracy.

The council appealed to the NWC to continue on the path of fairness and inclusivity, assuring that the Anambra State PDP remains loyal to all national organs of the party, including the National Executive Committee (NEC), Governors’ Forum, Board of Trustees, and the National Caucus.

Call for Unity Ahead of Elections

The Anambra PDP Elders Council emphasized that the focus of all party stakeholders should be on building cohesion and preparing for the upcoming governorship election, rather than indulging in divisive plots. They noted that a strong, united front is crucial if the party is to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state.

Prominent members present at the meeting included former Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Josephine Anenih, and other seasoned politicians. They all echoed the position that maintaining the current executive structure is the surest way to preserve stability and ensure electoral competitiveness in November 2025.

“The NWC must resist any influence that seeks to create unnecessary conflict. We have made progress, and there is no justification for regression,” the elders concluded.
