NNPP faction has stated that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s reported plan to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a personal decision and not the official stance of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). The group emphasized that no mandate has been given by the party at any level to commence negotiations with the APC.
NNPP faction explained that while Kwankwaso remains a founding member and influential leader, his actions do not represent the collective resolve of the party. They stressed that the NNPP continues to position itself as an alternative platform for Nigerians, independent of alliances with the ruling party.
NNPP faction insisted that there has been no official resolution or directive from the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) supporting any merger or collaboration with APC.
NNPP Faction: Kwankwaso Free to Act, But Party Remains Independent
NNPP faction acknowledged Kwankwaso’s right as an individual politician to pursue his ambitions and align with any party of his choice. However, they clarified that such a personal move does not automatically drag the NNPP into APC or any merger arrangement.
NNPP faction emphasized that political parties are governed by constitutions and collective decisions, not by the personal choices of one member, no matter how prominent. They argued that conflating Kwankwaso’s ambition with the party’s position would be misleading to the public and to party loyalists.
NNPP faction reassured its supporters nationwide that the party remains intact, focused on reforms, and committed to building a strong grassroots base to contest future elections on its own terms.
NNPP Faction: Party Still Committed to Opposition Role
NNPP faction reiterated that the NNPP was established to provide a credible alternative to the dominant parties and will not abandon that mission. They maintained that aligning with APC would contradict the values and principles that define the NNPP.
NNPP faction insisted that the strength of the party lies in collective leadership, internal democracy, and the support of its members, rather than the decisions of any single individual. They urged members to remain loyal, calm, and focused on the broader vision of political renewal in Nigeria.
NNPP faction concluded by assuring Nigerians that the NNPP will continue to play its role as an opposition party, standing firm on accountability, transparency, and good governance.
