State chapters and affiliate unions of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) are intensifying preparations for a potential nationwide strike following the culmination of a 21-day ultimatum given to the Federal Government to provide relief measures in response to the recent fuel subsidy removal.

Previously, organized labor conducted a two-day warning strike to emphasize their demands.
Following the warning strike, the NLC extended a 21-day ultimatum for the government to meet their demands.

NLC Declares Matter of Ultimatum

As the ultimatum ends on Friday, the Nigeria Labour Congress has scheduled an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting for Tuesday at noon.
The NEC’s course of action will be decided during this virtual meeting.
In a notice dated September 22, 2023, the General Secretary of the NLC, Emmanuel Ugboaja, emphasized the importance of attendance at the meeting to affiliate leaders.
In anticipation of the meeting, state NLC chapters have expressed readiness to mobilize for a strike if the NEC decides in favor of it.
