Nigerians supporting Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi are united in their efforts to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s position of power. Just after the Chicago State University CSU released Tinubu’s Academic records, critics have assigned blames and argued that President Tinubu and his teams. They insinuated that the president should have proactively sought to release his academic records to the public.
However, it would be overly simplistic to assume that President Tinubu’s own disclosure of his academic history would put an end to Atiku’s relentless pursuit. In doing so, Nigerians might overlook the intricate motivations and underlying agendas of those who have taken a keen interest in scrutinizing these records.
Mission of Selfish Egos
Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, both of whom were presidential candidates in the last election against Bola Tinubu, and their supporters, have not openly admitted to Nigerians, that their motivations extend far beyond seeking the truth or safeguarding Nigeria from any perceived threats to its democracy, even those attributed to Tinubu. Instead, it appears that their mission is driven by a complex interplay of selfish egos, resentment, spite, and personal vendettas, all aimed at toppling Tinubu at any cost, even if it means risking the stability of the entire nation.
It’s important to note that while Atiku, Peter Obi, and their supporters may believe they are on a noble quest to dismantle Bola A Tinubu, their actions as supposedly patriotic Nigerians have inadvertently fostered a cancerous atmosphere within the country. Rather than contributing to the nation’s progress, their mission seems to be leaving a destructive mark, akin to a self-destructive button, threatening to undermine the country’s recent emergence on the global stage.
This is especially disheartening when considering the remarkable rise of Nigeria’s music, movies and other parts of the entertainment industries, which have been garnering international acclaim. The incessant pursuit of personal vendettas appears to be overshadowing the nation’s potential for growth and success.
The Chicago State University Diploma Controversy: Just the Tip of the Iceberg
It’s crucial for Nigerians to recognize that the recent scrutiny over Bola Tinubu’s alleged Chicago State University (CSU) diploma is just one chapter in a larger narrative. Trivial issues have been consistently raised throughout Tinubu’s nearly three-decade-long and highly successful political career. Undoubtedly, he stands as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished political figures in the current political landscape. His influence and mentorship have provided a solid foundation for numerous politicians, including President Buhari and even Atiku Abubakar himself.
When confronting a political giant of Tinubu’s stature, strategies often extend beyond policy debates and governance discussions. Some may resort to attempting to tarnish his character, undermine his societal contributions, and engage in petty pursuits aimed at convincing the public that he is less than honorable. The CSU diploma controversy is just one facet of a broader effort to challenge Tinubu’s position in the political sphere.
Rumor Mill: Trivial Attacks on Tinubu’s Reputation
Some Nigerians epecially followers of Tinubu that are following the journey from the start knows that the pursuit to tarnish Tinubu’s reputation did not commence with the CSU diploma saga but is part of a pattern of trivial attacks against a man who has spent nearly three decades in successful political service. Some of the baseless accusations include:
- U.S. Embassy Denied Tinubu Visa: False claims that Tinubu was denied a U.S. visa were debunked when his passport, carrying a valid U.S. visa, was presented.
- Concocted Death of Tinubu: Outlandish rumors about Tinubu’s death were dispelled when videos of him exercising were released.
- Tinubu Taking Another Wife: At a point before the election, Nigerians woke up to an unsubstantiated reports circulated about Tinubu taking a new wife, which required yet another statement to debunk.
- Dark Money Affairs: Claims that Tinubu controlled over 70% of Lagos investments and received monthly funds from the Lagos State government were baseless.
- Heroin Trafficking Network: Accusations that Tinubu laundered money for a heroin trafficking network in his youth. However, it is crucial to set the record straight, as these claims seem to conveniently overlook a significant fact: despite facing numerous accusations of corruption, theft, and involvement in drug deals, Tinubu has never once been arrested, prosecuted, or charged with any criminal offense, let alone convicted.
- Tinubu is Suffering from Parkinson’s Disease: Some Nigerians could not also forget the false allegations of Tinubu suffering from Parkinson’s disease were propagated without any concrete proof.
Mainstream Media Caught in the Web of Rumors
The world of mainstream media has not been immune to the rumor mill, as a slew of dubious claims continues to pour in from various sources. Ojy Okpe, a correspondent for Arise News, appears to be actively participating in this trend, using sources like “David Hundeyin” to consistently churning out questionable news stories about Tinubu, the formidable political giant who refuses to fade into obscurity.
Ojy Okpe’s trending headlines seen by many Nigerians have included bizarre assertions such as “Tinubu Never Attended Primary or Secondary School,” “Witches Endorse Tinubu’s Candidacy,” “Tinubu Is Secretly a Woman,” and “Tinubu Is Not a True Nigerian.” It seems she has descended into the depths of sensationalism, with Arise News airing these sensational stories on a daily basis, rather than focusing on relevant policies that could genuinely impact the lives of Nigerians or address the pressing issue of food security.
Nigerians Sing the Balablu Song: A Forgotten Speech That Highlights the Disconnect in Nigerian Politics
Do you recall the famous “Balablu” speech? It was the moment when Bola Tinubu spoke about the difference between a town hall and “Balablu.” Unfortunately, Nigerian youths, who were expected to be adventurous and enthusiastic learners, seemed to miss the essence of that speech brimming with policy proposals and an ambitious vision for Nigeria. Instead, all they took away from that speech was the word “Balablu,” which they swiftly turned into an abusive catchphrase directed at the presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu. This incident reflects a troubling trend in Nigerian politics where rhetoric often trumps substance, hindering a deeper understanding of potential presidential candidates.
Regrettably, this disconnect between political banter and policy substance persists even after elections. Tinubu has been sworn in as president, but the self-destructive tendencies of some Nigerians persist. It’s as if they can’t wait to see Nigeria burn down, all in the pursuit of removing their most despised adversary from power.
This self-destructive mindset raises questions about the collective responsibility of Nigerians to engage in informed political discourse and to actively participate in shaping the future of their nation. Instead of fixating on empty slogans and personal animosities, it’s crucial for citizens to focus on policies and the betterment of the country.
The Perilous Path Forward: Nigeria’s Future at Stake
Moving Nigeria forward requires us to look beyond Bola A. Tinubu’s ability to disprove baseless conspiracy theories that threaten our nation’s stability. It is high time we apply just about the right amount of “chemotherapy” to eradicate these destructive “cancer” of fake news at their roots before they cripple our country.
The rational path for any patriotic Nigerian should be to accept the confirmation from CSU that Tinubu did graduate from the institution. Even when two of his classmates attest to Tinubu graduating alongside them in 1979, it seems insufficient. The demand for his academic records continues, and even as those were provided, it will never be enough.
Peaceful Transition of Power is as Dangerous as not Relinquishing One When Your Time is Up
Even in the world’s most powerful nation, the United States, the key to a peaceful transition of power lies in the defeated presidential candidates’ recognition of an imperfect election. They put the interests of the nation above personal ambitions and concede to the victorious party. However, we witnessed the chaos that erupted when a U.S. president refused to follow this tradition, leading to a near collapse of the nation on January 6th, 2020.
Similarly, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi seem to be on a mission, not only through the legal channels but also by mobilizing Nigerians who are willing to destabilize the country if it means undermining Tinubu. This is the most lethal threat to Nigerian democracy and sovereignty. Because in truth, it is never about finding the truth because these lots “cannot handle the truth”
In this scenario, even if Jesus were to intervene and vouch for Tinubu, it’s likely that some would still resist, driven by a destructive mission to burn down the house if they cannot remove the tenant. They seem to forget that in the process, they risk having no home to reside in once the dust settles. Are Atiku and Peter Obi so delusional as to believe they’ll become president through these actions? Their track record suggests a tendency towards delusion.
This is a plea to Nigerians to let go of the self-destructive button while there’s still time for redemption. Let’s focus on building our nation rather than tearing it apart from within.
