The Defense Headquarters recently disclosed a remarkable achievement by the Nigerian military, stating that they successfully eliminated 6,880 terrorists and criminals, apprehended 6,970 individuals, and rescued 4,488 kidnapped hostages from January to date. Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, shared these astounding figures during an update on the military’s operations in 2023. The comprehensive report also highlights the recovery of 3,320 assorted weapons, 39,075 assorted ammunition, and the retrieval of significant quantities of crude oil and other petroleum products.

In the North East, the troops of Operation Hadin Kai demonstrated their effectiveness by neutralizing 1,759 terrorists, apprehending 953 suspects, and rescuing 826 hostages. The recovery of 259 AK47 rifles, assorted arms, and large quantities of ammunition underscores the operation’s success in dismantling terrorist networks and ensuring the safety of the populace.

Operation Hadarin Daji in the North West proved equally successful, with 1,522 terrorists killed, 645 suspects apprehended, and 1,101 hostages rescued. The recovery of weapons, including 53 AK47 rifles, and the liberation of hostages highlight the military’s commitment to restoring peace in the region. Operation Whirl Punch, an allied effort, further neutralized 992 terrorists, arrested 345 suspects, and rescued 538 hostages, demonstrating the multifaceted approach to tackling security challenges.
