A precise operation carried out on November 24, 2023, by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) executed a targeted air strike on a gathering of terrorists located within the Mandara Mountains. The strike, a significant success for the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, targeted three zinc structures nestled among trees, where over a hundred heavily armed terrorists had convened.

Evidence from aerial footage indicated the terrorists were either preparing for a critical meeting or gearing up for a major offensive against Nigerian troops. Additionally, the area housed four troop carriers, indicating potential mobility for their impending plans.
The aftermath of the air strike revealed the destruction of two of the three structures, alongside the complete annihilation of the troop carriers. Crucially, reports suggested that Abu Asad, a prominent figure within the Ali Ngulde faction associated with Boko Haram, was among the terrorists eliminated in the strike, along with several of his fighters.
This operation dealt a severe blow to the operational capacity of the group, significantly disrupting their plans and leadership structure.
Nigerian Air Force Response and Commendation from Chief of the Air Staff
Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff, lauded the Air Component Commander and his team for their exceptional execution of the mission. He emphasized the need for continued collaboration between the Air and Land Components to sustain the momentum in combatting terrorism. “We must keep the terrorists on their toes,” he remarked, stressing the importance of relentless efforts to fulfill the trust placed in the military by the Federal Government and the people. Abubakar reiterated the commitment to rendering life unbearable for terrorists until their complete surrender or elimination.
The success of this operation represents a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to counter terrorism within the region. With the elimination of key figures and the destruction of vital infrastructure, the Nigerian military‘s proactive approach signals a formidable challenge to the activities of insurgent groups within the Mandara Mountains and surrounding areas.
