NDLEA Arrests Lekki Restaurant Owner Arokodare Ebenezer for Allerged U.S.- Nigeria Drug Trafficking

NDLEA Arrests Lekki Restaurant Owner Arokodare Ebenezer for Allerged U.S.- Nigeria Drug Trafficking

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confirmed the arrest of Arokodare Damil Ebenezer, the owner of Damillionz Takeout in Lekki, Lagos, for allegedly trafficking drugs from the United States to Nigeria. NDLEA operatives apprehended the 43-year-old businessman at Bay Lounge on Admiralty Way, where he was reportedly awaiting the arrival of a fresh shipment of illicit narcotics.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi stated that the agency had been monitoring Ebenezer’s movements for weeks after intelligence linked him to an international drug trafficking network. His arrest followed the interception of a shipment containing seven large cartons of high-grade cannabis, known as “Loud,” which arrived in Lagos on March 12, 2025.

NDLEA Seizes 32.24 Kilograms of High-Potency Cannabis

The NDLEA reported that its operatives intercepted a consignment of drugs concealed in a logistics shipment before tracing it to Ebenezer. The confiscated substance, identified as a potent psychoactive cannabis strain, weighed 32.24 kilograms. The agency stated that traffickers often attempt to smuggle such narcotics through concealed cargo, but its advanced intelligence operations have made detection more effective.

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency officials further explained that the shipment was cleverly packaged to avoid suspicion, but officers were able to track its movement from the United States to Lagos. The agency believes that Ebenezer was part of a larger syndicate using commercial businesses as fronts for distributing illicit substances across Nigeria.

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Conducts Raid on Ebenezer’s Residence

The NDLEA disclosed that after Ebenezer’s arrest, a search of his Lekki residence uncovered additional evidence linking him to drug trafficking. Officers found 94 grams of the same cannabis strain, along with drug-processing tools such as grinders, packaging materials, and digital weighing scales. These discoveries reinforced suspicions that Ebenezer was actively involved in the illegal drug trade.

NDLEA sources indicated that Ebenezer’s home was likely used as a storage and distribution point for his drug business. The agency stated that similar raids have exposed how traffickers operate discreetly in affluent areas, using luxury apartments as secret warehouses for their illegal activities.

NDLEA Reveals Ebenezer’s Drug Trafficking History

The NDLEA revealed that during interrogation, Ebenezer admitted to engaging in the illicit drug trade since 2017. Investigators found that he had allegedly built a network that enabled him to import high-grade narcotics from foreign suppliers while distributing them through underground channels in Nigeria. His restaurant, Damillionz Takeout, was reportedly used as a cover to disguise the proceeds of drug sales.

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency officials added that preliminary investigations suggest Ebenezer had contacts with international drug traffickers who regularly supplied him with shipments from the United States. Authorities are now expanding their probe to uncover other individuals connected to his operations, including potential financiers and distribution agents.

NDLEA Pledges Continued Crackdown on Drug Syndicates

The NDLEA has assured Nigerians that its fight against drug trafficking remains a top priority. The agency emphasized that traffickers who believe they can evade law enforcement by hiding behind legitimate businesses will eventually be caught. It reiterated its commitment to identifying and dismantling syndicates involved in cross-border drug smuggling.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd.), stated that the agency has intensified surveillance and intelligence-sharing efforts with international partners to track illicit drug shipments before they reach Nigerian soil. He urged the public to report suspicious activities, emphasizing that drug trafficking poses a major threat to national security and public health.

The NDLEA has confirmed that Ebenezer will face multiple charges, including drug importation, possession, and distribution, under Nigerian law. If convicted, he could face life imprisonment or a lengthy prison sentence, as Nigeria has some of the strictest drug laws in the region. Prosecutors are preparing a case backed by forensic evidence, financial records, and witness testimonies.

The agency reiterated that Ebenezer’s arrest should serve as a warning to others involved in illicit drug activities. National Drug Law Enforcement Agency officials stressed that no individual, regardless of their social status or wealth, is above the law. Meanwhile, the agency is continuing its crackdown on drug supply routes and syndicates operating within and beyond Nigeria’s borders.
