Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has announced a groundbreaking security initiative, the ‘Power Rangers,’ to tackle the rampant vandalism of Nigeria’s power infrastructure. This specialized security task force, formed in collaboration with the Minister of Power, will be deployed nationwide to safeguard electricity transmission lines, substations, and critical energy facilities.

Speaking at a press briefing, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the destruction of power installations has been a major cause of nationwide blackouts and economic setbacks. “We have decided now, with the Minister of Power, to have what we call the Power Rangers. Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo expressed deep concern over the increasing cases of power infrastructure vandalism, which have left millions of Nigerians without electricity. He noted that in recent months, multiple power substations and transmission towers had been deliberately sabotaged, crippling industrial and domestic power supply.

“The destruction of our power assets is a direct attack on Nigeria’s progress,” Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo declared. “These acts of sabotage are not just crimes; they are economic terrorism. We will not allow a few individuals to hold the nation hostage. The ‘Power Rangers’ will be deployed immediately to put an end to this menace.”

Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo Entrusts NSCDC with ‘Power Rangers’ Operations

Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo affirmed that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) would take full charge of the ‘Power Rangers’ unit. Given their experience in securing national assets such as oil pipelines and public infrastructure, he believes the NSCDC is best suited to lead the fight against power sector vandalism.

“The NSCDC has a proven track record in asset protection. They will be equipped with the necessary tools and intelligence to monitor, patrol, and neutralize threats to our power infrastructure,” he explained. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo added that the government would provide advanced surveillance systems, drones, and rapid response mechanisms to strengthen their operations.

He stated that new laws and harsher penalties were being considered to deter vandals and dismantle the criminal networks behind these attacks.

“If you are involved in vandalism, know that we are coming for you. We will hunt you down, and you will face the full wrath of the law,” he declared. “The era of impunity is over. Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo Highlights Economic Impact of Power Sabotage

Minister Tunji-Ojo stressed that unreliable electricity, caused by infrastructure vandalism, has been a major obstacle to economic growth. He noted that businesses are spending billions of naira on alternative power sources, pushing up production costs and discouraging investment.

“Our industries are struggling because of these deliberate acts of sabotage,” he said. “The cost of generator fuel, the disruption to businesses, and the impact on job creation are too severe to ignore. By securing our power infrastructure, we are not just providing electricity; we are safeguarding Nigeria’s economy and future.”

Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo Pledges Long-Term Security and Energy Reforms

Minister Tunji-Ojo assured Nigerians that the ‘Power Rangers’ initiative is only the beginning of broader energy security reforms. He revealed that the government is working on long-term strategies, including private sector partnerships and technology-driven surveillance, to ensure a sustainable power supply.

“This is not just about today; it is about the future of our power sector,” he concluded. “We will continue to strengthen security measures, enhance policy frameworks, and build a power infrastructure that can withstand any threat. The ‘Power Rangers’ are here to stay, and they will deliver results.”
