Dem say dem no fit continue work because government never implement the new National Minimum Wage wey federal don approve since.
According to dem, na long time government don dey do “audio promise” without action. Nurses dey complain say their pocket dey run dry like borehole wey don dry for harmattan, while dem dey work round-the-clock to save lives.
For hospital side, patients don dey stranded, as many wards dey empty without nurses to attend to dem. One patient even talk say, “Na drip dey my hand, but no nurse to come change am. Government don use us do mumu.”
LAUTECH Midwives Dey Para, Say Welfare Don Too Bad
E no end for minimum wage matter alone. The midwives join voice say their welfare package no dey reflect the kind hard work wey dem dey put in. From poor working condition to lack of equipment, dem say the hospital environment don turn survival of the fittest.
One midwife yan say, “We dey deliver babies for night without light, no allowance, nothing. Yet dem wan make we dey smile like say we be Miss World.” The strike na their last resort after several letters and meetings with management no bring solution.
Many of dem dey vex say while politicians dey chop fat allowances, healthcare workers dey hustle like say na charity work dem dey do. Na why dem no fit continue until government respect dem effort with correct welfare.
LAUTECH: Government Yet to Reply, Patients Dey Suffer
As the strike enter full swing, government never still release any strong statement to calm the wahala. Hospital management dey beg nurses and midwives make dem return, but union leaders dey insist say no going back until new wage and welfare issues don balance.
Meanwhile, patients and their families dey cry say dem don turn collateral damage inside the fight. Some dey rush their loved ones go private hospitals, wey dey charge money like say na abroad.
Observers dey fear say if government no act fast, the strike fit paralyze health service for Ogbomoso and beyond. For now, the chant loud for nurses’ union be: “No pay, no work!”
