The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has dismissed the African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) declaration of readiness to win the 2027 presidential election, describing it as “a political mirage and delusion of grandeur.”
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Lagos APC spokesperson, Mr. Seye Oladejo, said the ADC’s boast of certain victory in 2027 was not only unrealistic but also laughable. According to him, the ADC’s claim that “failure is not an option” amounted to “a tragicomic display of self-deception” by a party that has been largely invisible in Nigeria’s political space.
“The ADC’s declaration sounds more like a comedy skit than a political strategy. Nigerians can barely recall its existence, let alone its relevance,” Oladejo said. “If empty press statements and wishful thinking could win elections, perhaps the ADC would stand a chance. Unfortunately, democracy rewards substance, not self-praise.”
No Structure, No Ideology, No Chance,” Says APC
Oladejo further argued that the ADC lacked the political structure, followership, and ideological grounding necessary to compete in a national election. He said that the party, often plagued by internal crises and identity issues, had failed to establish any meaningful presence across the country.
“There is absolutely nothing on ground politically anywhere in the country to warrant the ADC’s self-deceit,” he said. “A party in perpetual crisis over membership discipline and identity cannot be said to be setting its sights on national victory.”
He further described the ADC as “the political joke of the coming national elections,” warning that Nigerians were not in the mood for such distractions. According to him, voters have become more discerning and are focused on results, not rhetoric.
APC Touts Tinubu’s Achievements, Warns ADC to Face Reality
Defending the record of the ruling party, Oladejo said Nigerians had witnessed “a clear difference between a governing party with vision and competence and directionless groups that emerge only during election seasons.” He highlighted the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda, citing progress in infrastructure, economic stabilization, and investor confidence.
“These are tangible achievements, not mere slogans,” he said. “Rather than daydreaming about a 2027 victory, the ADC should face the reality of its perpetual irrelevance. A party that cannot win a polling unit should not delude itself about winning the presidency.”
Oladejo’s comments come amid renewed political alignments following former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ADC earlier this year. Atiku’s move, which was intended to strengthen a coalition against the APC ahead of the 2027 elections, appears to have drawn sharp reactions from the ruling party, which maintains that the opposition remains fractured and disorganised.
