A fierce fire outbreak consumed the Ladipo market in the area popularly know as Ladipo Pako Market, situated on Iganmu road, in the Orile area of Lagos state. The incident occurred between the late hours of 11:30 PM on Tuesday and 12:30 AM on Wednesday, sending shockwaves through the community.
Swift Response by LASEMA and Firefighters Prevents Loss of Life
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, confirmed the incident on Wednesday morning. Thankfully, there have been no reported casualties resulting from the blaze.
Heading the first responders reacting to the Ladipo Market fire incident, Dr. Oke-Osanyitolu stated, “The agency responded to distress calls and arrived at the above scene of the incident to discover that the plank market was being gutted by fire.” He added, “Fortunately, there is no loss of life. However, goods and property yet to be enumerated have been destroyed due to the inferno.”
At present, the cause of the fire has not been definitively determined. Eyewitnesses at Ladipo Market have claimed that the fire began in the early hours of midnight, igniting concerns about the incident’s origin. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the source of the blaze.
Ongoing Battle to Contain the Raging Blaze at Ladipo Market
The Lagos State Fire Service, the Federal Fire Service, and LASEMA have been working tirelessly to extinguish the persistent flames. As of 6 AM, the fire continues to pose a significant challenge to the firefighting efforts.
The blaze has been further exacerbated by the proximity of the sawmill market, which deals in combustible materials and building supplies. Eyewitnesses have mentioned that the fire rapidly spread due to the presence of inflammatory wood polish and the dryness of the season. Despite these challenges, the competency and dedication of the firefighters have been instrumental in containing the situation.
