Former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has vowed to drastically reduce the voting strength of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State during the 2027 general elections. Addressing stakeholders and political allies, Kwankwaso pledged to lower APC’s votes to less than 15,000 in the state.
Kwankwaso made this declaration during a meeting at his residence in Kano with former councillors and senior special advisers who served under his administration. The gathering, which also included stakeholders from Tsanyawa Local Government Area, showcased the former governor’s renewed focus on grassroots mobilisation and political strategy to strengthen his party’s hold on Kano politics.
Kwankwaso Reflecting on 2023 Elections Success
Kwankwaso attributed the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP)’s success in the 2023 elections to the dedication and hard work of his political team. He noted that the NNPP outperformed expectations despite being a relatively new political platform with limited resources and a delayed campaign launch.
“Our team’s efforts sidelined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), leaving them to secure only 15,000 votes in Kano State,” Kwankwaso said. This achievement, according to him, demonstrated the potential of the NNPP to challenge established political forces. He now aims to replicate this success against the APC, emphasising that his goal is to ensure APC’s voter strength is similarly diminished in the next elections.
NNPP’s Grassroots Strategy for 2027
During his remarks, Kwankwaso highlighted the pivotal role grassroots mobilization will play in the NNPP’s strategy to erode the APC’s dominance in Kano. He called on party members to intensify their outreach efforts, ensuring the party’s message resonates across all communities in the state.
“Our strength lies in our people and their commitment. We must remain united and dedicated to reaching every corner of Kano,” Kwankwaso said. He underscored the need for community engagement and voter education, urging NNPP supporters to go beyond political rhetoric by delivering tangible benefits to the electorate. “This is not just about politics; it’s about shaping the future of Kano and fulfilling the promises we make to our people,” he added.
A Call for Grassroots Mobilisation
In his address, Kwankwaso underscored the importance of grassroots mobilisation as a key strategy for the NNPP’s continued growth and dominance in Kano politics. He urged party members and supporters to remain committed to reaching voters at the community level, describing grassroots support as the foundation of political success.
The former governor also stressed the need for effective communication and organisation, encouraging his followers to intensify their efforts to build on the NNPP’s momentum. “Our mission is clear: we must work tirelessly to secure victories in future elections and solidify our party’s position as a dominant force,” he stated.
Positioning NNPP as a Dominant Political Force
Kwankwaso expressed confidence in the NNPP’s ability to challenge the APC and other political parties beyond Kano State. He highlighted the party’s potential to expand its influence nationally, leveraging the achievements of its Kano chapter as a blueprint for success.
“We have shown what is possible with determination and strategic planning,” Kwankwaso added, encouraging his supporters to remain united and focused on delivering results. With the 2027 elections on the horizon, the former governor’s call to action is expected to energise the NNPP’s base and further consolidate its position in Kano’s political landscape.
Commitment to Kano’s Development
Kwankwaso also emphasized the importance of aligning political ambitions with the socio-economic development of Kano State. He assured stakeholders that the NNPP’s plans for 2027 are rooted in improving the welfare of the people. “Our campaign is about more than just winning elections. It is about ensuring that the people of Kano have access to better opportunities and a brighter future,” he said.
The former governor reiterated his call for party unity and urged supporters to remain focused on the task ahead. He concluded by expressing confidence in the NNPP’s ability to achieve its goals, stating, “With dedication and hard work, we will not only reduce APC’s votes in Kano but also transform the political landscape of this state for the better.”
This bold statement sets the stage for what promises to be a fiercely contested 2027 general election in Kano.
