I’ve Not Dumped APC’ – Adamu Garba Denies Defection Rumours, Affirms Loyalty to Party

A former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamu Garba, has firmly denied reports circulating on social media alleging that he has resigned from the ruling party.

Garba described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that he remains a committed member of the APC despite online assertions suggesting otherwise. The controversy follows a viral post which alleged that he had removed the APC flag from his office and criticised the party’s leadership under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Social Media Claim Sparks Controversy

The rumour originated from a post by social media user @tenibegiloju202, who claimed that Garba had distanced himself from the APC. The post alleged that the former presidential aspirant removed the party’s flag from his office and “bid them farewell,” citing dissatisfaction with the APC direction under Tinubu’s leadership.

The post quickly gained traction online, sparking reactions from supporters and critics alike. Given Garba’s history as an outspoken supporter of the APC, the allegation triggered widespread debate within political circles and among APC faithful.

However, there was no official statement or confirmation from Garba at the time the claim surfaced, leaving room for speculation before his eventual response.

Garba’s Response and Clarification On His APC Defection Rumours

Reacting to the report via his verified X account, Garba dismissed the allegation as fabricated. He urged the public to disregard what he described as attempts to spread “mercantile fake news.”

“These bot-trons want to drag me back on this street with their mercantile fake news. I’m still very much a full member of the APC,” he wrote. He further appealed for privacy, stating: “Please allow me to write my books and do my business in peace.”

Garba’s response appears aimed at quelling speculation about his political allegiance and reaffirming his continued membership in the ruling party. His remarks suggest frustration with what he considers coordinated misinformation efforts.

Political Implications and Public Reactions

While the controversy may have been short-lived, it highlights the growing influence of social media in shaping political narratives in Nigeria. Unverified claims, particularly those involving high-profile political figures, can spread rapidly and generate significant public discourse before official clarifications are issued.

Analysts note that internal party cohesion remains a sensitive subject, especially amid ongoing debates about governance and policy direction. As such, reports of defections or internal dissent often attract considerable attention.

For now, Garba’s categorical denial appears to settle the matter, at least officially, as he reiterates his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress and distances himself from the online claims.
