Minister of Information Mohammed Idris has praised ActionAid Nigeria for its “remarkable 25-year journey of consistent frontline service,” highlighting the organisation’s unwavering commitment to women empowerment, community education support, health improvement, and governance advocacy. The Minister, who spoke during ActionAid’s 25th anniversary celebration in Abuja, described the group as one of Nigeria’s most reliable non-state partners in grassroots development.
Mohammed Idris noted that ActionAid’s impact is evident in rural and urban communities where vulnerable populations have benefitted from long-term programmes designed to reduce poverty, promote gender equity, and expand access to essential services. He stressed that the organisation’s approach aligns with the government’s strategic objective of building inclusive and self-sustaining local communities.
Mohammed Idris emphasised that the Federal Government acknowledges and values the contributions of ActionAid, stating that such partnerships are essential to achieving national targets in education, health, and social protection. He reaffirmed the government’s readiness to deepen collaboration with institutions that improve citizens’ welfare.

Mohammed Idris addressed ongoing misconceptions circulating internationally about Nigeria’s religious environment, insisting that the nation remains fully committed to constitutional guarantees of religious freedom. He clarified that Nigeria does not operate policies or practices that discriminate against any religious group, describing such claims as distortions that often emerge from uninformed foreign commentary.
Mohammed explained that while Nigeria faces real security challenges—ranging from insurgency to banditry—none of these issues should be misinterpreted as state-sponsored actions against any religious community. He cautioned foreign organisations and media outlets against promoting narratives that oversimplify complex security situations or misrepresent inter-communal tensions.
Mohammed Idris warned that misleading international narratives could undermine diplomatic trust, hurt investment prospects, and strain Nigeria’s relations with strategic partners. He urged stakeholders to rely on credible information and constructive engagement rather than sensational or divisive interpretations of events.
