Imo State, unidentified gunmen launched a targeted assault

In a tragic incident that unfolded around 11:30 am in Oriagu, near the Aba branch in the Ehime Mbano council area of Imo State, unidentified gunmen launched a targeted assault, resulting in the alleged killing of at least eight security operatives. The victims included soldiers, policemen, and members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Shockingly, a viral video clip captured the aftermath of the attack, showing four lifeless soldiers in uniform alongside their weapons, as well as two vehicles engulfed in flames.

Imo State Eyewitness Accounts and Tensions in a Developing Incident

As the rapidly unfolding situation continued to evolve, authorities acted swiftly to establish a secure perimeter around the road leading to the incident, a move that only served to heighten the palpable tension within the affected community and reverberate beyond its borders. Eyewitnesses, who had front-row seats to the unfolding drama, shared harrowing accounts of the incident with Opitan Global Media (OGM) personel close to the source.

One individual recounted the events with a sense of urgency, conveying, “The incident unfolded merely two hours ago, and it’s still vivid in my mind. I first noticed the two Hilux vehicles as they traversed from Oriagu en route to the Aba branch in Ehime Mbano. As I speak to you now, those very Hilux vehicles remain engulfed in flames.

Terrifying Ambush in Imo State: Soldiers’ Brutal Assault and Community’s Fear

The soldiers, who were on board, fell victim to the assailants’ brutal assault, adding an extra layer of tension that permeates our surroundings. In response, we had no choice but to close our shops and retreat to the safety of our homes.

The presence of a multitude of security operatives, who had swiftly descended upon the scene, further fueled the anxiety gripping the community. They imposed a blockade on the road, causing residents to scatter in all directions, seeking refuge within the confines of their homes. Our collective fear was that anything could transpire at any moment, leaving us in a state of profound unease. To provide some context, in the first Hilux vehicle alone, I counted over five soldiers, while in the second, there were more than four security operatives. Tragically, it was revealed that all of them had met a grim fate at the hands of their assailants.”

At the time of this report, Imo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Henry Okoye confirmed the incident but requested additional time to provide further details and insights into this tragic event.
