IGP Kayode Egbetokun Applauds Ogun Police’s Heroic Rescue of Ex-AIG Odumosu’s Wife, Neutralizes Kidnappers and Recovers Ransom

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has expressed profound appreciation for the Ogun State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo, for their exemplary performance in foiling the abduction of the wife of former Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu. The swift and tactical response by the operatives successfully neutralized the kidnappers, safeguarded the victim, and ensured the recovery of a substantial portion of the ransom paid by her family. Kayode Egbetokun highlighted the professionalism exhibited by the command as a standard for other police units across the country.

In a press release by the Force Public Relations Office, the IGP underscored the critical role of intelligence-driven policing in the operation’s success. Ex-AIG Hakeem Odumosu’s Wife Rescued Unharmed

The wife of the retired AIG was reportedly abducted last week while traveling within Ogun State. The assailants, identified as a notorious gang active in the region, had demanded a substantial ransom for her release. Despite the family paying part of the ransom, swift police intervention disrupted their plans.

The victim was safely rescued during a high-risk operation, with no harm inflicted on her. Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo described the operation as a testament to the professionalism and bravery of his officers, who neutralized threats without endangering the victim.

Kidnappers Confess to Receiving Inside Information

During interrogation, the arrested kidnappers confessed that the operation was orchestrated with the help of an insider. According to their statement, an unidentified man provided detailed information about the victim’s movements, enabling the gang to plan the abduction.

One of the suspects revealed, “We were given specific instructions and knew exactly when and where to strike. We also received assurances of support in case of complications.” This revelation has prompted further investigations to identify and apprehend the informant.

Over N4.2 Million Ransom Recovered from Suspects

Following their arrest, the police recovered over ₦4.2 million from the suspects, believed to be part of the ransom paid by the victim’s family. This recovery underscores the efficient coordination of the operation, which not only ensured the victim’s safety but also dealt a significant blow to the gang’s resources.

The IGP Kayode Egbetokun praised the operatives for their attention to detail in preserving evidence and recovering the ransom. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that criminal proceeds do not empower perpetrators to further terrorize law-abiding citizens.
