Governor Uba Sani Fulfils Promise to Bauchi Family, Immortalises Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi

Governor Uba Sani has formally immortalised the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi by renaming the Centre for Qur’anic Science at Kaduna State University (KASU) in his honour. The facility will now be known as the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Centre of Excellence for Qur’anic Sciences and Memorisation, a move aimed at preserving the legacy of one of Nigeria’s most influential Islamic scholars.

Governor Uba Sani announced the decision during the Mawlid Nabiyy (Maulid) celebration organised by Fityanul Islam in Zaria, Kaduna State. The announcement, according to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Malam Ibraheem Musa, reflects the administration’s resolve to celebrate individuals whose lives promoted knowledge, peace, and moral uprightness.

Governor Uba Sani described the renaming as a symbolic yet meaningful recognition of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi’s lifelong commitment to Islamic education and spiritual guidance, noting that institutions of learning remain the most enduring platforms for preserving history and values.

Governor Uba Sani Fulfils Promise Made to the Bauchi Family

Governor Uba explained that the decision fulfills a pledge he made during a condolence visit to the family of the late Sheikh in Bauchi on December 15, 2025, shortly after the scholar’s death. He recalled assuring the family that Kaduna State would take concrete steps to honour the cleric’s immense contributions to society.

Governor Uba Sani emphasised that although Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi hailed from Bauchi State, his influence cut across regional, ethnic, and religious boundaries, with a strong following and intellectual footprint in Kaduna State and across Nigeria.

Governor Uba added that naming an academic centre after the late scholar is intended to inspire future generations of students and scholars to embrace the values of discipline, tolerance, scholarship, and peaceful coexistence that defined Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi’s life.

Governor Uba Sani Highlights National Legacy and Commitment to Unity

Governor Uba Sani paid glowing tribute to Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who was a revered leader of the Tijjaniyyah Sufi order and passed away on November 26/27, 2025, at the age of 98 after a prolonged illness. He noted that the cleric’s death attracted nationwide mourning and recognition of his moral and spiritual leadership.

Governor Uba Sani acknowledged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had also immortalised the late scholar by renaming the Federal University of Health Sciences in Azare, Bauchi State, as the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University of Health Sciences, underscoring the national importance of his legacy.

Governor Uba Sani, while commending Fityanul Islam for its consistent role in peacebuilding and social cohesion, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive, people-centred governance. He stressed that Kaduna State will continue to promote unity, religious tolerance, and policies that ensure no community or group is left behind.
